Cool idea. I have a bunch of free time at my job so I will probably check it out. However couldn't you just "search titles and descriptions" to find what you are supposed to find.

Also if someone changed one of your listings, or added something to your listing wouldn't you be suspicious?

just a guess....but, they are probably gonna be BIN auctions that the first person to find and "BIN" will win the $1000

they will probably be eBay posted auctions, not edits into real auctions

that would be a lot of traffic for the seller if it was a random auction though

I just got my official eMail about the contest, it doesn't say too much about the contest. I will definantly tune in tomorrow to see what is going on and what the official rules and game play is all about.

They did something like this on ebay.co.uk up to and around Christmas.

Unfortunately the clues were so outrageously obscure and lateral that it was virtually impossible to get any of them. And since you didn't actually know when someone had won, you were just left guessing as to whether it was even worth your while to carry on trying to find the damn thing.

I just ignored it in the end. I suspect a lot of the prizes were won by luck, by people just browsing new auctions, rather than following the 'clues'.

Well day one seems to have started, and the clues seem to be kinda specific, I guess I just don't know what you are supposed to do. Do you guess what the item is and then try to find it in a listing. I know that these questions would be better directed towards eBay but whatever. It seems like there are more than one clue throughout the day too.

I almost had the 'car and actor' one. I was actively seeking out Harrison Ford stuff, and came across some Fugitive DVD's. I passed them up though, without thought.

    Damnit!

Here's the pattern, I think... eBay posts a clue which leads to a generally broad answer..

    Sandwich filler : cheese.
A president, a place, a car: Lincoln Towncar
A car and an actor: Harrison Ford

Then you have to wade through several hundred other auctions and hopefully come upon the right one. At least for some of these. Others are just fucking stupid.

Yeah ... and as soon as people figure out what's going on you will also have to wade through the hundreds of auctions that will suddenly spring up with "Harrison Ford" thrown into the title in the hopes of getting a few extra hits that they wouldn't have otherwise got.

That's what happened when the UK one was runinng at least.
