Default Will a Lynx II power-up without a game inserted?

I just got a Lynx II, and I have no games...

It doesn't seem to power-up, but I have no game inserted. Will the display glow and the powe rlight illuminate when there is no game inserted?

My GameGear powers up as long as there're good batteries inserted. It doesn't display anything, but you can see the glow of the display and the power light illuminates.

Before you get too far along, try adjusting the brightness knob. Also try powering it on while the room is darkened. Then you'll really get an idea if the backlight is coming on...

    Good luck.

The light turns on and the screen shows something like "Insert game card" or "Please insert game".
