Consider it Sony's answer to Sega's VMU. A Playstation memory card with an LCD.
Death to Bill and Ted!
lol, thats way different than what i thought it was.
Man did it piss me off that it never made it to the US, although in a few US games they left in the pocketstation games (FF8 and Legend of Mana are the two I know of).
I remember that PSM was hyping the crap out of that thing. I found it amusing when they had to come back and say "oh...well it isnt coming out here anymore." I think it would be cool to have one. Probably wouldnt pay $50 for it though. $25 maybe.Originally Posted by Promophile

Count me in as a PocketStation owner!
I love mine to bits, except, like the DreamCast VMU's, battery life is piss-poor.
A nice novel idea back in 1999, but we have come a long waty in the last five years. I think the new Xbox is supposed to have something similar, but a lot more advanced (Ie, basically a detachable MP3 player thing, which may or may not include a colour screen)
Yeah, it WAS susposed to be released in the States but Sony canned it for some reason. Square was a big supporter for it in Japan, a reason some of their US games have support for the PocketStation still built in.

The PAL version of FF8 also has the PocketStation code still in too!
Amongst others, so do Monster Rancher, Ridge Racer Type 4, Saga Frontier II and a load of others. They are the more well known games which were released with the support still built into the game code between regions.
GameFAQ's has a full list of compatible games I believe...
One of the PSX Street Fighters (maybe Alpha 3?) also had PocketStation compatibility.
Gekioh: Shooting King (Shienryu for PS) has a PocketStation mode. I dunno if it can actually be played on a PocketStation, but it's in a B&W LCD display mode. I'm waiting for it to arrive in the mail right now. I'd much rather have the Saturn version, since the PS can't handle it as well, but this will do until I get it for Saturn, and the PS version includes alot of other alternate modes. So it should be pretty cool, even on PS. I've never played Shienryu before.
Yep, that's the one!Originally Posted by anagrama
Not sure whether the code is still in the NTSC U and PAL versions though.
I know the Japanese version of Crash Bandicoot III is compatable, but not the other versions.
There are also a handful of games where the PocketStation is mentioned in the manual, but the code has been taken out of the PAL game. Either that, or it is still in there, but hidden and only accessable via Action Replay or something.
Cleopatra's Fortune (PAL) is one such game.
When I first got Final Fantasy 8, I tried every resource I could find (except the internet...I was really afraid someone would steal my identity if I bought something online) and came up with nothing. There was a point that I would have paid over $100 for one of these things, but not anymore. I'm too cheap now.

And besides, in FF8's case at least, the PC version of the game HAS the PocketStation Chocobo mini game in it anyway. You can still work on getting rare items and the like and drop them into your game, the same way you could if you had a PocketStation and the PSX version.

I have played that Chocobo game to death, and still can't find the rare item I am supposed to get. I can't seem to obtain that *A* ranked item.
It is useful though in the case of FF8 - It helps you get a lot of hard to find items which you need to upgrade weapons Etc.
I like the mini games from Saga Frontier II too!
I also hear there is a program that you can load onto it which lets you use it as a Tv remote control! I think that is only in Japan though unfortunately.
Namco had PocketStation support in R4 to allow for easier collection of cars.
Yeah, as I remember it R4 was supposed to be the big coming out party for the Pocketstation in the US.Originally Posted by klausien
