Should they make more women's sports games?

First, I want to point out that I am indeed a male.

I'm not sure why, but it just dawned on me today that I can only think of one sports game that stars women exclusively (besides volleyball). That being Ace wo Nerae, a tennis game for the Super Famicom. There are probably more out there, but they obviously aren't plentiful.

There are official titles for the PGA and NBA, but none for the LPGA or the WNBA. There are plenty of NCAA sports games for baseball and basketball. Women play these NCAA sports too, but there's never been any game based on them.


Now, obviously men's sports attract more fans than women's sports. This is just a fact, and it'll probably be a very long time before that ever changes. So I understand that men's sports are a bigger "draw," but surely someone must've thought to make some at some point.

So here's my two-part question. Should game companies make more women's sports titles? And would you buy one if they did?

This is assuming of course that you already like sports games in general. Please no responses of "I don't care because I don't like sports games."

Let's say there's a WNBA game. If it played just as good or better than an NBA game, I think I would buy it, personally. It's more about the gameplay for me than anything else. Maybe gender is all just a moot point though. I'm not trying to push an agenda. I'm just curious what other people thought.

Well, it would be easy. You've got the sports games there already, you'd just need new character models and rule changes where applicable.

But would it sell? Dunno.

If Team Ninja decided on creating Dead or Alive: Extreme Street Basketball... sure I'd play it.

For more traditional sports though its all exactly as you said... not many people would buy them. The one and only audience would of course be the female gamer... and I don't know about you, but all my female gamer friends aren't much in to sports games (and I doubt its because there aren't many women's leages to chose). I'm sure it wouldn't be hard for a company like EA to just remodel their NBA Live or FIFA games for the Women's leagues... just a new character models / teams / courts and some new physics. But its still precious development time that they could use to be making the NEXT NBA or FIFA game.

*sorry* I'm not much of a sports gamer... But I would like to see them release Women's sports games., I do see some market for them especially for the Ever growing popularity of the PC format for female gamers. Simply because it would give some diversity to an overcrowded "genre" I just don't see it happening any time soon... maybe in 5 years.

If they made an NCAA women's basketball game I would buy it. That is mainly because I am from TN and am a huge Lady Vols fan. That being said I do believe the lady vols have a bigger following than the men. Simply because we've always hada great women's basketball team and our mens team has always been somewhat lackluster ... although we beat arkansas tonight ... sweet!

Not unless they want to lose money, they are already trying to force women's sports down our throats as pro sports, the WNBA champs would get whopped by a good High School Boys basketball team, they are hardly pros, and they are hardly worth much attention.

Rumble Roses came out last year. It's another all-female wrestling game, but much like DoA Xtreme Beach Volleyball, the selling point of the game is the anime-inspired 3D eye candy.

I had forgotten about that title until FantasiaWHT reminded me of it.

the vols get tremendous support around here .... the mens basketball would too if they ever gave half a reason too.

nothing tops the footballl though ... and every team we play is gauranteed to hear rocky top at least 50 times ... even if we lose by 100 points.

I'm going to be attending UIUC this fall which has the FIGHTING ILLINI WAHOO. Anyways back to the topic. The reason not many female sports games are released, and when they are they're sexah female sports games is because, honestly, female sports games won't sell as well due to less people being fans of female sports, and the sexahness is the reason the ones that are made sell. If it was a decent game I may purchase a serious female sports games. I don't think more should be made, as there obviously isn't a market.

Heh, my parents moved to Knoxville some years ago. I know ALL about the fan support down there. That's when I converted under threat of death.

But I have to agree, I'd play a woman's basketball game -- either NCAA or WNBA. I'd play women's volleyball and hockey as well. I just don't think I could pick up a softball game, though.

Of course the men sports gamers are most popular. Because there AREN'T any women's sports games.

Besides, when did the people of DP decide which games are good based on popularity? I like my fun obscurities.

They'd sell better than men's soccer games in the US, yet they still make those.

Rumble Roses, Dead or Alive Beach Volleyball, Beack Spikers and WTA Tour Tennis (Gamecube) are about the only other games I can think of with purely female participants.
