Default Retro Atari Classics DS Whos Playing?

I am really curious to find out what other people think of this game. I have been chomping at the bit for months at the idea of tempest with a touchscreen. When I first played it I was really disappointed at the control scheme of some of the games. But after some time with it it doesnt feel half bad. Most of the games still feel better to me using the D pad.

So who else picked it up?

I am holding off because of mixed reviews. I will maybe borrow it from someone or see if I can rent it first. I also have a crapload of PSP games coming soon.

I am actually in the same boat. But glorious Tempest was calling my name and the graphics update they did to Asteriods is really cool in my opinion.
I get more upset at companys that put out sequal after sequal. I will support some new franchises. The one thing that scares me about my DS is how much everyone loved Mario 64 DS. I already collected all the stars once and now they want me to do it again with way worse controls. I should have just saved some money and played my 64 version with my feet. Please no more 64 platformer remakes.

OMG same here!! Did you see that list of all the UBISOFT game coming this year. All remakes basically, and the same for everyother company!

I have thought about picking this one up too, but as well as alot of people don't know right now because of mixed reviews. Don't know if i want to pay full price for it yet.

UbiSoft's lineup is heavy on sequels, not remakes. Big difference. I'll pay for a sequel, but I've paid for Astroids enough times to not really want to pay for the opportunity to play it on my DS.

How is this collection any different than Atari Anniversary for the GBA? Why not just plug that into your DS instead? Unless you of course don't already have it.

I agree...it's games like this and Namco Museum for the PSP that piss me off. How many times do we have to buy the same stuff with just graphical upgrades.

Although I did buy Mario 64 DS...

One of my favorite games of all time + more characters and stars + fun minigames = repeat purchase from me

Other than being happy that they realized there were other pre 1980 Atari arcade titles than Pong, Lunar Lander, and a couple others, by including Sprint, it doesn't excite me much.

I'll buy it for Sprint, but that's it. I hope Atari Anthology 2 if it ever happens includes more of these b&w arcade games like Football and Fire Truck.

I didn't know it was out! Cool!

Actually, I'll get it mainly because I'm one of the few who DIDN'T buy these game compilations before.

I wish I could try it first though.

I actually kind of like using the sliding tool with Mario 64 DS. It gives you a bigger range-of-motion than the analogue stick did, so it's easier to go some speed between barely-moving and maximum-high-octane-barreling across the course.

I'm curious about it for Sprint, Lunar Lander, Touch Screen Controls and the "remixes". Waiting for more reviews tho. It'd probably be better to get Yoshi or Warioware... I hope Meteos comes out soon

I'd take a sequel to a rehash *any* day. Having said that I do like playing the older games on the newer system if it's convienent (such as old Atari games on my DS). HOWEVER, I'm not buying anything that doesn't have a *crapload* of games on it.

As to SM64DS: I've been enjoying it, and I didn't think I would. SM64 is a *classic* - I think nobody has done 3D platform games as well since, which is sad considering it was the first really big one. The fact that I can play it on a portable blows me away. Plus it's different enough and I haven't played the original in so long that it's a great fun for me.

I enjoyed Activision Anthology on the GBA, but I'm sitting out the Atari compillation on the DS. Even though the redesign seem nice, there isn't enough to entice me to go back there. I have an Atari, I have Arcade Greatest Hits: The Atari Collection 1 for the SNES and its semi-remake Atari Anniversary remix on the PSX. That's enough for me.

I picked this up today, I haven't put much time into it though. As of now though, I am THOUROUGHLY disappointed.

    They fucked up Pong.

HOW do you fuck up Pong?

    I dunno, but they did.

See, the thing is, I scored 8 points with ease. The AI was so horrible that I just zoomed em right by my opponent "paddle". He missed some shots that 2 year old's could have gotten. Then after I got to 8 points....I couldn't score anymore! All of a sudden, he was hitting EVERY SINGLE SHOT.

Pong....I never thought it could be ruined, but it has....and it has on the DS. For shame. For shame.

Well, I didn't buy one of the prior game compilations, and I'm collecting for the DS...so I got the game. I would say almost every game is easier to play with the d-pad rather than the touch screen..but, the touch screen is adding challenge to some games I've played since I was a kid. I like the release, and i like a lot of the background art. Not going to be one of my favorite games for the system in the long run, but until a lot of better stuff comes out, I'll be happy playing it.

No, I found it fine, but then again, I barely played the PS2 version and in most cases, I don't even own the original game (save for Pitfall and Tomcat). I did find Kaboom unplayable, and it's not even because of the lack of dial control, but rather because the color scheme makes it impossible to see while playing.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand.
