Can someone explain to me what the deal is with the Best Electronics Protos - Why are they in regular carts with regular labels?

Best used boards they bought from Atari in whatever cases they had available, most of them are either 2600 - Moon Patrol or 7800 - Pole Position II.

Best protos are the bane of most Atari proto collectors esp Quadrun.
Best went so far as to make copies of lab labels on that one.
They had many originall one of kind protos but they also made new ones using the parts they had laying around. Collect what you enjoy but don't buy these if you are looking for an investment.

Yep that about sums it up. Although I'm not sure if it was Brad at Best who made the fake Quadrun labels or some other devious person. Did anyone actually buy one of those from Best?
Tempest
@Tempest- I know many people who bought them Best. Each of them sold them on Ebay once they found out they were faked. I will not say any names but I'm sure if you did the proper search on Dejanews for FA posts you will find a few well known collectors who sold more than one on eBay.
ALSO I SHOULD STATE FOR THE RECORD
Cpuwiz has a Quadrun proto on Ebay and it is NOT the one Best faked and sold. I dunno if I came off that way at first but it was not my intention. I didn't realize he had one up for auction at the time.
Adam
Yes I bought one from Best along with a Waterworld and both had the fake lab
loner labels, both were returned to best.
Brad told me he bought them from someone and that's the way he received them, completely assembled and labeled

Cheers Adam, I keep getting all kinds of rude f*cking emails about the Quadrun lab-loaner, I think I am just going to keep it for now. If anyone wants to trade it for something I don't have and recognizes it's rarity, please PM me.Originally Posted by Buyatari

is there any difference between the 2600 games like donald duck or holey moley sold by best electronics and the 5200 games like meebzork and spitfire? it seems to be more acceptable to call the 5200 games "prototypes" than the 2600 games, though in many cases, neither have the lab loaner labels. are the 5200 best "protos" also the bane of most atari proto collectors?Originally Posted by Buyatari
