Default anyone heard of Game Collector?

In my opinion, there are two distinct approaches to cataloging; Offline and Online. Me personally, I like offline lists (which is why my list here is so sparse). I just love to rearrange and classify and label things as I like them.

Anyway, I wondered what everybody else thought so included a screenshot.

ps. searched "game collector" in the forums and had about 11 pages of hits - so excuse me if somebody has raised this before...

I tried the trial version, but I have a lot of imports. It couldn't match up a lot of the imports and even quite a few of the domestic games. It's great for newer stuff I think.

I used to use Cart Commander for some time until I discovered Game Collector. I gave it a trial and got hooked. Been using it ever since. It's usually pretty good for auto-completing some of the info, but I really don't mind inputting the stuff by hand. Gets me more in touch with my collection. I'd be lost without Game Collector.

Game collector is awesome i love it. the best part is if you have something that you think should be added or changed just post it to the GC boards and they will VERY often implement it. They are the best.

Looks like a pretty cool software, but I've yet to even try it because last I checked, there still wasn't a Mac version out (but one is announced, so it's only a matter of time).

Does it have the capability to pick one game at random, once you've put together your list? I'm looking for that function to help me pick a game to play (so I don't always give all my attention to the same games...).

    Yep!

Pretty much any area you're in, you can right click and select random.

Because I have it broken up by systems, first you'd get a random system, and then go in there and get a random game.

There's lots of different ways to view your collection too, even by thumbnails of the coverart

Can it export data to a text file or better yet a spreadsheet? The only downside I see to this is the inability to share your lists and info with persons who don't also have the app. Otherwise it looks very nice.

It can export to txt, html, xml and palm/pocket pcs

The HTML version can get pretty snazzy

Yep, and the coolest part is that it didn't have this feature when I first got it. A person on the boards suggested it and it was implemented.

$40.00 seems like a hefty price for something that just stores game info......, I think Ill just stick with the DP list and the IGN list.

Looks like a cool app. I'm definately gonna check out their website. Since the company is collectorz.com maybe they'll also have something that catalogues DVDs and comics, which I really need.

Yep! I believe they do both of those, along with Music

I posted this in a different thread, but since the topic has been brought up again, I'll quickly go over what I said.

Basically, Game Collector is good - but for the people who believe the devil is in the detail, then I recommend a mod for a program called Ant Movie Catalog. The mod is in the forums of the AMC website under Scripts.

This is so unbelievably good. It trounces on GC. For the true collector, this is what you should be using. But there we are. Game Collector is still pretty good, I just thought it was slow, cumbersome and ugly.

    Heard of it? Sadly yes.

They are great at stealing people's data. Just ask Moby Games and All Game Guide. (among other sites).

I also use Game Collector with at about 2700 added titles. the software gets better and faster after every update (hello, Microsoft) and I haven't had speed slowdowns yet. The relatively new feature with thumbnails for every game is also nice.
A good quality product in my eyes.

Bah...looks like they won't have most of the incredibly obscure shit that I have lying around. Not worth it. I'll stick to Excel.
