I wish I knew more about the company myself.

From what little I remember from a site I saw once, the company was formed in 1982 and started making games for the MSX computer line and then the Famicom when it came out. They also started with arcade games and those games were often ported to the early consoles by other companies, but they published some games of their own.

Actually, I think if you look carefully at the billboard of Konami in the background of one of the stages of TMNT Tournament Fighters for the SNES it SAYS the year Konami was formed.

I also recall reading what the name ment in Japanese but now I forget.

Konami was formed in 1969 as a jukebox rental/repair shop.

Wow, I never knew all of that. Good site.

I'm SURE I saw 1982 on that billboard in TMNT Tournament Fighters. Must be refering to the opening of the US branch.

As one of the only gaming companies to surive the 'Great Video Game Crash', they defentily have my respect.

Now, can anyone find the same info on Capcom? :P

Here's a great site that documents their Arcade Hardware and all the games that ran on each type of hardware.

    Intereresting intro, too.

Sega & Namco more or less unified all of their games since the early 80's under "Systems" - these were simply the same base hardware with different program roms, and lasted them over a great deal of time, and meant minimal development costs and general ease of use...
Konami on the other hand seemed to go about things in a totally different manner, what some people are calling a "what CPU have we got a lot of today" kind of setup.
