Default Whats worse Antique Road Show or Ebay

I was wondering where some of the local thrift shops were getting there prices from on there over priced games and units. Then Lastnight the rerun of the road show was on with the atari, $5 for a common like pac-man $200 for a system. And I thought E-bay had some high prices. I wish I could sell my commons for $5 a piece I would be a rich man.

Dunno if you ever go to the Ebay Insanity board, but there was someone selling Missle Command, Donkey Kong, and a few other dirt commons starting at $50 each with a reserve. I think someone emailed him and he quoted Antique Roadshow as the source of his prices. So there you go, best of both worlds.

Don't you mean the worst of both worlds?
Each one is dumber for setting prices than the other.

I would say "Antique Roadshow" is the worst simply for the fact that a lot of non-gamers watch it and the appraisers are supposed to be professionals who know what they're talking about. I can easily see someone's mother yank the Atari out of the closet, think she's going to be rich, and try selling it in a garage sale for $100. Another non-gamer "Roadshow" viewer sees it, remembers the value was $200, and immediately snatches it up, where he then in turn tries to sell it for $150, and on and on. I've seen clueless people try selling comic books, Beanie Babies, and Pez dispensers for waaaaay more than they're worth simply because they were told they were collectable.

With ebay you can at least do a little searching on similar items to get a general idea of what something is worth based on what someone is willing to pay for it, not what some "expert" said it should be worth. It's not perfect, but it's the lesser of two evils.

I'd say Antiques Roadshow is a lot worse as well. In general, when I see overpriced 2600 stuff in the wild, it's always an old dude selling it. And in general, only old people watch PBS :P

on the flip side if my documented Atari 2600 collection gets stolen I could use the Road Show program to prove that my 100 bucks worth of atari games and equipment is worth $1500

    Default antiques roadshow

Hey, at least when they had the Atari stuff on Antiques Roadshow the guy didn't say "This stuff is crap" and throw it in the garbage!

Or he might have said "This old junk is worth absolutely nothing except to a bunch of misfits on the Web."

I guess it depends on where you stand with your collection.
