Stunt Racer 64 is by far the most impressive looking racer on the system. I really loved Diddy Kong Racing back in the day. Cruis'n Exotica and the Snowboard Kids games were great too.

4 player Mario Kart 64 was always oodles of fun, but I like the GC version more... yeah, I guess I lose some old-school points for saying that.

Extreme-G 2 (I think that's the title). Probably the best racer I've played on the N64. Great tracks, variety of weapons, and good enemy racers.

Altough I never really liked the N64, I had multiple racers. My facorite will be Mario Kart 64. The Cruise 'n USA/World/Exotica war not as bad, but maybe I only liked them as they were they only home version. San Fransico Rush was also good. I was disapointed with the Top Gear games, but I prefer the SNES-versions of the series above the one on N64. I think this are the games I played, oh I forget the Horrible Mickey Mouse Driving game, and the quite good Ridge Racer 64. I think that's it for me.

It'd have to be Diddy Kong Racing, with Extreme-G in second.

Wow, I can't believe this thread got this far with no mention of Beetle Adventure Racing or Excitebike 64.

Ridge Racer 64 and Wipeout are also good...I usually don't consider Wipeout when I think of racing games.

F-Zero X! Speed... I could never stand the original on SNES, but X was great. Brought me in to the F-Zero series, which will eventually be ruined by this cartoon and Awkward Story modes. AX / GX is a dandy too!

Another one I used to play a lot was Star Wars Episode I: Racer. That was pretty fun. A lot of tracks / racers and all of the upgrading was pretty darn nifty.

EDIT: Totally forgot about Wave Race 64, that was a great one too. And I've only played maybe an hour of ExciteBike 64, but it was quite enjoyable.

Currently playing in my dreams: The Brutal Balad of Fangus Klot (Xbox) Citizen Siege (Xbox 360) Hand of Odd (Xbox 360)

Beetle Adventure Racing is still one of the most enjoyable arcade racers ever produced.

Mario Kart 64 first and foremost, but there are a ton of great racers on the N64. Defineately Beetle Adv, the Cruisn's, San Fran's, World Driver. Top Gear was the first racer ever to have NO background pop up and it had a cool paint your own car feature. Diddy Kong, Wave Race, Ridge Racer..... all the futuristic racers..... where does it end?

Stunt Racer 64 IS the bomb... to bad it was a rental exclusive! Very few people have played this game, and that's a big, big shame.

It came out very late in the N64's lifecyle and was originally supposed be a regular release, then was cancelled, then finally made it to Blockbuster stores. Most stores got one copy.

It's from Midway, but (believe it or not) it's not using the San Francisco Rush engine OR the Cruis'n USA engine. And its a good one!

The graphics are very, very nice... it even has a high resolution mode that turns it into THE sharpest and prettiest racer on the N64... bar none, but it's a LETTERBOXED format that makes the game much less enjoyable. The regular version is quite lovely, though.

Of course, NOTHING beats the absolute majesty that is F-ZERO X except for the original F-Zero on Super Nintendo.

    Cheers

Mariokart 64 if friends are playing it with me - it's one of the best games for trash talking.

Wipeout 64 if I'm playing on my own - the 4 player is neat, but unless you have a huge tv, it's near impossible to play the split screen modes. Excellent in 1p mode.

I haven't tried all the racers, but Mario Kart 64 and Xtreme-G 2 (not 1, it scored decently enough back in the day but looks very, very dated) are great stuff.

Waverace 64 is by far my favorite N64 racer. The feel of splashing through the waves and the almost dream-like environments set it apart from other racing games.

F-Zero X, Mario Kart 64, and San Francisco Rush are my favorites.
