Default diffrence between josticks and buttons?

so i was lookin around on happ controls and checkin out joysticks and noticed there was 3 that looked good the ultimate super and competition, i also noticed competition was the most pricey i was just wondering which one is actully going to be the best for the real arcade feel, i want a very smooth joystick that doesnt make all sorts of lous clicking noises, also about buttons which ones are the best to go with for that authetic new arcade feel (i played street fighter third strike this weekend, and realized it was time to get better controls for my mame cab.

Well, if you see it uses cherry switches then its going to be loud and clicky. If you find some pac-man style they won't be, but i'm not sure what that would be called....However, cherry switches = loud.

The old style pacman joysticks used what called a "leaf spring" style of switch. Two metal leafs next to each other, that you push together when you move the joystick.

check out the joystick reviews in the link below. it's pretty much everything you need to know.

BTW, the Competition is not the most pricey, the Super is. I own both and I like the Super a bit better, but both are awesome. The advantage with the Super is the ability to switch from 8-4 way, which is very important if you play any games that had a 4 way controller.

Any joystick that uses microswitches is going to make a clicky sound. I guess you would have to get an optical joystick to avoid this, but that would cost big bucks and be a pain to install. Joysticks that use leaf switches suck IMO and need constant maintenance.

The Mrs. Pac-Man machine leaf switches seem to hold up nicely. But I have seen one break and it was aggrivating to fix it (I had to give up 2p ability by stealing its switch to replace it, a worthy sacrifice to be able to go left). I have yet to see a cherry switch break. But also I really haven't been dealing with arcades too long.
