I may be buying a Mario Bros cabinet and since it doesnt have the game in it I am planning on turning it into a MAME. Also, there is no monitor. If anyone can quote me a price of what this might cost, I'd be thankful.

Really it depends on what kind of monitor you plan on using (PC, TV, or Arcade), how much you spend on the computer, and how many parts you have lying around vs. what you'll be buying.
IMO, if it's just a shell.... no monitor, no pcb, just joysticks and a p/s. To convert it to a mame cab you don't need the power supply and you could reuse the joysticks. If the cab doesn't need much work, I'd offer the guy like 50 to 100 bucks for it, cash, help me throw it in the truck kinda deal. Cuz what your really getting is just a wooden shell and some loose parts.
I'm just trying to keep from losing my mind!
Yeah, I'm paying 100 for it. Which includes it being driven over to my place. I have a computer I can use and some computer monitors, but I'd rather have a arcade monitor in there.

$100 for an empty cab? Even delivered, that's a bit much.

a sheet of 4x8 MDF is about 20$, takes 3 of those for a cab

so 100 is fair

There are exceptions for rarer games, of course.
There's the question of personal worth, though. If you feel that $100 is a fine price for an empty cab, especially when you consider the price of lumber and labor, then you're coming out ahead.
Personally I wouldn't pay more than $20 for an empty, and that's being generous. So far I haven't paid anything for any of the empties (and a lot of not empties), but that's because I know where to look.
He gave me an extra monitor, a little screen burn but you cant complain about free. Also, it was converted to a JAMMA cab. It has the JAMMA harness, wires to the joysticks and what I think to be the power supply. I don't know much about the insides of arcades so if you know any sites with information on what all should be inside a JAMMA cab I'd appreciate it.

Okay, it wasn't totally empty then. That's not too bad. Working monitor with JAMMA harness is worth a few bucks. Is there an arcade power supply too?
Here's a JAMMA pinout from my site:

if youve had great luck finding empty cabs, than congrats. its not so easy around here.
if im understanding correctly, his cab isnt empty, so a jpac may be easier for him.
if empty cabs are common in your area, than send some down here. he may not mind paying for convience if itll save time and money, as well as a headache.
if your not that good with the insides of arcade machines and arent that sure of your skills, you might want to just shelf that arcade monitor and throw a PC monitor in your Mame cab....especially since it has screen burn
arcade monitors carry a lot of voltage, and without proper knowledge of them, you could potentially kill yourself
you'd probably end up with a better quality and safter monitor if you used the PC monitor

An arcade monitor will give you a far superior picture. They're only dangerous if you don't take the right precautions.

if there's an auction near you , you could get away with one for under $20

Yeah, but I'd rather have a original cabnit with all the building done for me. Or are you talking about a monitor.
Anyone here know a site that gives specific insturctions on how to hook a jamma harness up to all the joysticks, power supply, etc.

He didn't mention the artwork. A Mario Bros with excellent art is worth a LOT more than a crappy, beaten up cab with no art. I'd pay $50-75 for a cab with great art for a game I want, a beaten up cab I would pay no more than $30 for... it doesn't matter where you are, if you know where you look, empty cabs are not hard to find. Those who say they are simply haven't put in enough time yet to find the places to look in their area.
Seeking display quality copy of I Want My Mommy for the 2600... if you have one, PM me, I will pay/trade well.
A Mario Bros cab (worth more to me than a generic cab) pre-wired for JAMMA, including a monitor for $100 delivered doesn't sound too bad to me -- particularly if you don't own a vehicle in which you can transport it yourself. Granted, I wouldn't pay that much for a totally gutted cab or a cab for a game I didn't care about.
