    Default Goodbye Tapwave Zodiac?

Saw this on Gamespot about Tapwave and the Zodiac line of PalmOS PDA's:

    http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/05...s_6123726.html

I've had one for about 9 months and really like the music and photo abilities, plus being able to keep my collection databases portable and searchable is great. I've downloaded a bunch of PalmOS games and the LJZ emulator, so I don't feel like I wasted money buying it. I've only purchased one game card (THPS4) which I've rarely played.

Fry's has been offering the Zodiac 2 with 4 games for $349 lately, but I think the PSP has overshadowed it. Sad to see it go...

I never really saw it has a handheld. More like a portable computer.

It was an okay idea that wasn't executed all that well. People always saw it as more of a palm device than a game system, and somewhat rightfully so - they aren't many games for it. I'm sure that fans of the system will be sad to see it go, but for 99% of the people out there, this news probably means nothing ("what's a Zodiac?").

I actually played one of these. Its an ok system The only game I played had psx type graphics, some racer not to great however. The only thing that impressed me from the short play time was the analog stick, its seems pretty well built for it size.

I would have got one but the price has stayed a little too high for my likeing. They never got enough games to make it a real gaming system either. Does anyone know how many official games were released for it. It always looked to me like a Palm that was layed out for gaming. I guess that's what it is. I played with it a little in Comp USA and it seemed nice. I liked the big screen. I've read it has great emulation capabilities. In the end the price is what kept me away otherwise who knows.

Anyone collecting this system? And anyone working on some DP entries? Who doesn't love a capable extinct system?

Something tells me that they saw the writing on the wall -- that Nintendo had made a system that could be essentially the same thing as the Zodiac for 1/2 the price, and that it couldn't get a foothold anywhere.

I have never seen one in real life, and I'm pretty constantly in game store and around electronics.

I got one of these recently -- it's GREAT for emulation and Doom! The exclusive games aren't too bad either, but there aren't many of them. It's too bad the company didn't do better financially, but the homebrew scene good for us gamers but bad for business. Kinda like the GP32. Kinda like the PSP isn't but I wish it were.

www.ebuyer.com has a set for $189 if you're interested in playing. IMHO it's a better deal than the PSP since you can play all the oldies under a free emulator called LJZ which has a perfect NES module, and very good GameBoy, Genesis, SNES, TG-16, and Wonderswan emulation modules.

Check out www.zodiacgamer.com and www.tapwave.com if you're on the fence.
