I really gotta imagine that pick-up/shipping costs really affected the bidding. If it was something smaller, like a game or a system with a rarity like this, it would have gone for an ass-load more.

not to mention you need a large amount of space and have an understanding girlfriend/wife/mom in order to own it.

ive seen other insanely bulky things go for real cheap before cause people just either dont want to pay crazy shipping, or dont have the space.

So whatever happened with your kiosk? What sort of modifications have you made?

Truly magnificent- how I remember how oh-so-excited we were when we saw them in the stores, the kiosks!

And yep....even some games they never did produce. Tunnels and Trolls, anyone? Oh, wait- never appeared!

    Thanks for the photos!

Man I was kicking myself for not seeing/bidding on this auction. Then I realized it ended over a year ago.

To the owner of this thing, I seriously hope you have not "modded" it. As someone who collects and preserves kiosks, nothing is worse than seeing one that someone has tried to "fix" or "mod". Especially in this case. This has to be one of the only examples of a Coleco kiosk left. It would be a shame to see a hacked up control panel simply because you didn't like the layout on an extremely rare machine.

Since someone else already bumped the thread, it's "Son of Jor-El", not "Dural". Jor-El is Kal-El's (Superman's) father, thus Superman is the "son of Jor-El".

Seriously, that thing's a beast! Awesome grab, though. How about some more pics? Maybe of the inside, back, etc?

Well since I've had the kiosk I haven't been able to even set it up. Due to it's overwhelming size (over 7 feet tall and 4 feet wide) it's sat quietly disassembled on a set of shelves in my basement. I only recently moved it upstairs while I was having my basement water-proofed. Don't fear the kiosk wasn't harmed in any way. Just the few occasional water spots in the basement forced me to finally have it taken care of. It has not been modified in any way, shape, or form, it still is as original. If I do get some space to set it up I would still have to re-arrange the controls so the the joystick is on the left and the buttons are on the right. But whatever I do believe me it would be reversible.

I have thought about selling it recently, simply due to the fact that I've had it for what a year or so and like I've said it's still stored away unused. If anyone's seriously interested in it shoot me a PM I just may consider it. Please keep in mind I wouldn't sell it for anything less than $500.00.

Wasn't there at leat one of these at World of Atari '98? I think it was the guy who runs a closeout business and had Pac-Man/Ms. Pac-Man plush, GCE watches and a bunch of other new-old-stock items. I swear he had one or maybe even two of these. I could be remembering this incorrectly but I think I thought they were just for display but he actually sold them for some insanely cheap price. I would pay a few hundred for a classic-era kiosk if it was close to me. I almost bougt an Atari 5200 one off Ebay a few years ago.

The definate problem with kiosks is their rediculous size and weight. I was fortunately only about 10 hours away from the seller so I just drove and picked it up. If its half way around the country you gotta figure it's got to be crated for 150-200 dollars and then shipped via truck line for probably another 200-400 dollars on top of whatever you pay for it.

That is nothing short of beautiful.

Reminds me of Hills department store - circa 1983 when while my parent shopped, I would play Venture on the kiosks..
