    Default Sega CD Metal Plate

Does anyone know if you NEED the metal plate that screws onto the bottom of the genesis in order to get the Sega CD to work with it? I just dug out my Genesis and Sega CD (Both model 1) But I dont know where the plate is. I can't get the Sega CD to come on when I turn the Genesis on (yes both are plugged in). I've even cleaned the contacts.

It is not required. I think a common problem with the Sega CD is the fuse. Try checking that.
