FDS-Mario Golf gold edition "tourny prize" 799 eur

Hi there,

I came across this auction recently on the Dutch eBay site (seller ships worldwide though) for a golden Famicom disk game Mario Golf with a unique case.

The seller says that it's from 1987 and was the prize of some tournament...and he's charging 799 Euro (around 1000 dollars) for it...so I'm wondering...is this thing really that rare? I'm sure that it is overpriced, as are many video game related items on the European eBays...but nevertheless...never came across this item before. Anyone have anymore background info on this item? Could this be "the golden NWC" for the Famicom collectors out there?

Yeah I've seen a gold thing like this before. Not sure if its a tourny prize but I know they are very very rare.

The prizes were for different games. The gold Mario Golf disk was given to those who came out on top for theJapan and U.S. course disks.

This sucker is worth that much.

Well.. the box who is included in this auction is the same as the box which contain Super Mario Bros G&W spesial edition or something. Only avalible in some competition in Japan back in the days. Correct me if im wrong.
