Default Modded Xbox Drive going out?

We've got a modded xbox here, and for some reasno the other day, for the first time ever, it gave a hard "disc dirty" error and killed the game. After a restart, it doesn't seem to want to read games anymore. I did however read a dvd movie. I threw a burn in to test a few times and now it seems to ahve mysteriously gained some new scratches.

It appears to have a thompson drive.

any clues on to what would cause this so suddenly, or any way to go about fixing it? Preferiably "fixing" it, as opposed to "getting a new drive" for it.

My experience tells me that what you prefer wil not fix it. Replacing the drive wil fix it. Anything else you do to that Thomson would qualify as fooling around, and not fixing it.

    Sorry!

Sorry, but I really got to agree with omnedon on this one myself too. If the hard drive is messed up, all I can say is to get a new one and pop it in. Sorry for this stupid prob dude!

I'd say there might be alast option

Why not try opening the drive and cleaning the laser, also a pot tweak may shove some life into it. Although theres no telling how much time it has left and i really suggest scrapping that thommy for a samsung or a phillips.

If yoiur time means nothing to you, this is a real option. If there was anycheaper way to restore a DVDrom drive, I would have found it. I have tried all of the above, and that is why I suggest what I suggest.

The above attempts, if successful, would at best offer an extra 2 weeks function, if fortunate.
