Same dates as CGE but will be held in Dallas?
WTF?
Apparently they've having two shows, one in PA and one in TX, and the TX dates are the same as CGE. Which is strange, considering CGE announced their show dates a full YEAR in advance.
Well, lookit this way: CGE is getting more and more coverage each year, thanks in (good) part to the CGE presence at E3 last year and this year. Like it or not, that means that in the eye of most gaming journalists, CGE is *THE* classic gaming expo, not the Dallas edition of PhillyClassic (or even PhillyClassic itself).
Add to this the move to the Bay area to be closer to the game industry alumni, and I don't think the Dallas show is much of a contender.
They say it was the network that picked the date! (not sure i belive that).
i hope this don't hurt CGE as far as venders go. i don't think it will hurt too much as far as Attendance, any event that is held on the same weekend as CGE will NOT draw me in.
i've only missed 1 CGE and because of a woman (oohh the things we men have to do in the name of love) x_x

But, I just find it odd that someone would be willing to schedule their dates, even the NETWORK, on the same date as such an established show.
Wow, being from Dallas I have to say this really sucks! I've already made plans to attend CGE and wouldn't think of changing them. I know a couple other local people that are attending CGE as well. Seems like whomever made the decision to have the Phillyclassic the same weekend really messed up. I'd love to attend both, but no way I'm missing CGE!!
Guys,
Before you rip any throats out! The dates WERE pciked by NBC 10. This is different than just a Philly classic. These dates were picked long before CGE, for NBC's technology expos. Every year, NBC hosts this giant technology faire that shows off cutting edge technologies from all major and some minor companies. Philly Classic partnered with NBC, who obviously has a lot of pull in the world, and those dates were just inherited by Philly Classic (A.k.a. America's video game Expo) I really wouldn't go as far to say something is afoot, or something like that, because these NBC dates were set in stone way before they were even paired with Philly Classic. I wouldn't think too much of it if I were you, it's just random coincidence that NBC picked the same weekend in Dallas as CGE. There just happens to be a video game show attached now. I really wouldn't call it competition, because it's half way across the country, CGE is more recognized, and CGE is in time magazine, and all the major video game publications, along with E3! Again, relax, I highly doubt this is going to have any major effect on the turnout at CGE. Best of luck to both shows! I am sure this probablly won't happen again, and both shows next year will be on different dates. If they Aren't? Then start calling conspiracy... This can't be a bad thing. More Video Game shows in my opinion is ALWAYS a good thing.

1. Network chooses same dates as CGE. (hey retard!)
2. Someone could have mentioned to them: the biggest classic gaming expo (CGE) is going to be held on the exact same dates. (hey retard!)
3. They keep the same dates anyway. (hey retard!)
Was this done in spite or just ignorance?
Network my balls.
No I think you are missing the point, I believe the Network had these dates before CGE 2005 was even announced....Originally Posted by I Am Humanoid

Someone missed point #2.
CGE's dates were announced over a year ago.
ONE person on that team could have researched.
Conflict avoided - more attendees maybe?
It's just baffling how some people do things...
...kinda reminds me of my family, always doing things
ASS BACKWARDS.
I'm shocked that the "network" isn't holding the event in San Francisco as well!
Maybe there's a space available next to the Hyatt Regency!
Hmm well, I don't know what to tell ya, I mean I believe that NBC had the dates for their technology expos before the talks with Philly Classic begun.
Again, I doubt it will make a huge difference, as I am sure both venues will be jam packed with video games and people!

It would have been nice to attend BOTH considering there wasn't a conflict...
...and to the people at the "network"...
http://tonyfoxbklynnyc.homestead.com.../heyretard.wav
...they should have done their research!
Somebody send them a freakin' Google link!
I'm sure that both events will be packed full of video games but we all know where most of the *people* will be! (CGE)
No offense to anyone at the Philly Classic! (in Dallas)
I agree! Oh well, what can ya do...Originally Posted by I Am Humanoid

Oh, wait a minute...just found this press release:
netwerk nooz:
we be makin a eckspo called:
the philly blunts klassic
in dalis tecksus
same dates as CGE.
Isn't that cute?
The network must have hired a fresh batch of 6 year olds to coordinate THIS one!
Geez!
Reading this, I think 'grandamchandler' spelled it out fairly clear. Sounds like they didn't know the exact date of CGE before hand. This stuff just happens. Calling them dumb is not really a fair thing, but if that's how 'you' feel, go ahead.Originally Posted by I Am Humanoid

Ozyr's Odyssey2 Archive!
There are only so many weekends in the summer. I guess they had to pick one. What I said about the network wasn't fair at all, but what I said about my family is true and I withdraw all of my previous negative statements. You can choose your friends but you can't choose your relatives...
I was thinking about going to CGE (actually, I've been thinking about going since 99.. but that's another story), but if I'm not able to go (due to lack of planning as usual) I'll hit this up. I can take pictures and report if nobody else is.
Speaking of 99 (or was it 98?), the first time I came to Dallas before I moved here there was a wicked arcade museum exhibit here that had some of the nicest looking 80s cabinets I've ever seen. They had a sit-down Sinistar that had a sub-woofer in it that massage your butt when Sinistar would talk.
Zelda is NOT an RPG.
It's really not a problem, folks! If you're thinking "foul", know that the CGE crew isn't. These are two completely different kinds of shows. If you've ever been to a recent PhillyClassic then you know that it's intended for a broader kind of crowd. Classic Gaming Expo has been and always will be for those looking for nostalgia - mingling with the game industry's legends (the organizers think of CGE as a reunion just as much an we do an Expo) and being surrounded with yesteryear.
We're in great shape with our vendor situation as well, and we've hired local PR to get the attention of the bay area audience that we were hoping to capture last year but (in my opinion) failed to.
That said, I hope to see you all at CGE this August!
