Personally I go by lines, how about the rest of you?

I usually play Tetris either on my NES, one of those little handheld units, or emulated on my PC, and because of that I don't care about the actual score. Lines? Oh HELL yes.
I'm not sure what Tetris games you mean Milk, when I made the topic I had Tengen Tetris in mind, that is the flavor I play most.
lines, Have you guys played tetris worlds on xbox live? Some of those people can move those blocks insanely fast.
I still own the Tetris cart that came with my grey brick Game Boy, and the SNES Dr. Mario\Tetris gets some play, too. I also play the various Flash games that are online, especially if they keep high score boards. Digital Press has two of those games, but you have to use the subRed forum style to see the "Arcade" link in the upper right-hand corner.
Personally I am a line man, never really paid much attention to the score (unless me and the wifey were playing for bragging rights)

Score... I mean you get more points for scoring a tetris as opposed to racking up lines individually. I bust my ass to set up lines in groups of four.
I go for score.
BTW, I got the plug-n-play Tetris controllers (Target has them on clearance for $10). Even though they look uncomportable, they work pretty well for me, but the graphics are pretty blah (no changing backgrounds like some other versions) and the music is horrible (worse than the orignal PC version I played when I didn't even have a sound card) -- I know it's kind of silly commenting on the graphics/sound, but it does make it get a little boring after a while.
Shoulda been a poll. I'm a lines guy myself. I've never played Tetris for score.
"And remember ladies: if it ain't tight, it ain't right!"
Bingo. It's all about the score. They don't call it TETRIS for nothing.Originally Posted by Daria
Nah that's not true. Sure you get more points if you score four lines toghether but the difficulty level and the speed only increases when you make as much lines as possible. The score doesn't say at which level you are. I go for the lines, the more the better. And the more you have the better you are because you are in a higher level.

Yeah and the more Tetris'ssss (damn, what is it plural) you get the more lines you have and thus more speed/higher levels. I guess they all link together. But I go after Tetrises (?) only. So that automatically means a bigger score.Originally Posted by Tatsu
The way I really play Tetris is to start at level 9 and then work upwards. Why? Because anything before that is just too damn slow. I can't stand Tetris slow.
Another one of my favorite ways to play is with the Nintendo NES version, type B. Starting at 5-5, going up as long as you can make it. Memory's hazy, but I'm pretty sure I've beat at least 13-5, maybe 14-5. All I know is that it gets impossibly hard. One mistake and you're through.

I see what you mean. But if you make a lot of Tetrissss at the beginning you can get a very good score and still not have that much lines. If you have e very good score at the end, you can be sure to have reached a high level but from the points alone you can't tell in which level you are. The only way to tell that is (besides looking at the level in the game of course) to look at the lines.
Anyway, I guess we agree of some sort so I'm not going to babble more about this subject....

I always count just lines. But the Tetris version on my cell phone, counts score more than lines

I mostly pride myself on what level I get to on the NES Tetris.
I go online sometimes, but ... everyone's spelling is really bad, and it's ... depressing.

I would have to go with score on this one. The lines never really mattered to me.
I only pay attention to score -- think about it, if the game was designed to measure your performance by the number of lines you'd cleared alone, there wouldn't be a score counter in the game at all. Also, clearing only one line at a time makes the game much too simplistic. It's far more exciting to try and deal with all the incoming blocks while keeping a line open for a tetris opportunity. It also forces you to prioritize... you have to ask yourself 'should I just take the 2-line combo, or should I wait a little longer?'. More risk, more reward. All you line-clearing people should really try playing the game for score, as it becomes a whole different experience. Once the blocks start falling at lightning speed, then you're allowed to worry about clearing everything as soon as possible.
