Quicktime movies sometimes play perfectly in VLC, without having to infect your computer with all those nasty Quicktime codecs. (Such is the beautiful nature of VLC.) Sadly, proprietary audio and video Quicktime codecs seem to be increasingly common lately, but the video in question does not use these.

Wow, this is even better than what I expected. Looks like Mario is going to have the type of move set he did in Mario Vs. Donkey Kong. I am too glad they didn't worry about getting the touch screen in this, if they have some mini-games...great...if not, than I'm not gonna cry. I'll just be glad to have a new 2D Mario game.

Now if they'd do something like that for the Gamecube or the Revolution, that would be quite peachy.

I think their use of the dual screen in this game is great.

Top screen for above ground, bottom screen for pipes and underground.

Doesn't really do anything for gameplay, but I like the concept and I think it definitely adds to the overall presentation of the game.

I generally hate the rehashes too but, you know, they can be a good thing. I'm just now playing "Yoshi's Island" for the first time, having missed it on SNES the first time around, and of course I'm loving it. Having never really played any of the Donkey Kong Country sequels I'm looking forward to getting them too, in portable form of course.

What's puzzling is why they'd wait to do something like this for the DS. Not that they should be forced to use the touch screen or anything (I just want good games), but less fingers would've been pointed their way if there was a 2D Mario on GBA and this was just a sequel to that with better graphics.

(Plus, this thing is supposed to be doing 3D like the N64, right? Why not release a sequel to SM64?)

This game will make me buy a DS. I am waiting on purpose for the end of this year so the titles current will drop in price and some of the later ones like metroid, animal crossing, mario DS, and mario kart DS will be available.

    Score.

Of all the Super Mario Advance games, gotta admit that Yoshi's Island is the one that benefited the most from the re-release. Since it originally came out so late in the SNES days, most people basically ignored that game (I'm sure the cutesy Crayola look must have turned off many people too, who didn't even bother to try out the game first to see how well it plays -- not unlike the "celda" controversy surrounding Wind Waker).

And I don't mind side-scrolling Mario... Adjusting to the 3D perspective was my main beef years ago, and that was a good reason why I skipped over the N64 altogether. If it hadn't been for the videogame column I had 3 years ago, I'm not even sure I'd have a GameCube and a PS2 today -- that column forced me to move into the 3D gen of games.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand...

I never cared for Mario 64 or Sunshine, but this looks fantastic. May finally bring Mario back to where he belongs instead of a golf or tennis court (not that those games were awful or anything). They should have done this years ago instead of rehashing the other Mario games on the GBA.
