Is it an official N64 Controller Pak or something else?

    Maybe the battery's dead?

No, seriously, the N64 memory packs had a.....i think it was a CR2032 battery inside.

IIRC, it was the last battery backed memory card, other than the Saturn or Sega CD back-up carts.

And the Sega Dreamcast, don't forget that. The Dreamcast was the last battery backed memory cards, and come to think of it, the battery that you named of for the Nintendo64, dendawg, sounds like the same that was used for the Dreamcast battery packs. I can check later if anyone wants me too. I also think that it is listed under the discription in the DP colector's guide for the Dreamcast memory cards.

True, the Dreamcast VMU's had batteries, but they weren't necessary to save games to it. The batteries just provided power to the VMU for external usage, such as playing the much-vaunted mini-games feature.

    True that.

I have a few VMUs that I use a lot that have dead batteries I'm guessing as they will never let me play the mini-games or do any of the other functions such as looking at your save on the screen that the unit is supposed to do. They do allow me to save though thankfuly. In fact, no that I thing about it, I know that you are right as I have opened up a Sega brand, 4X storage, 'VMU' unit without the screen and it did not have any batteries in it. Very interesting.

Well, I guess that this is a free bump. Not really helping am I?
