    Default 2 Neo Geo questions.

    1. Is there only 1 type of Neo Geo memorycard or are there diffrent in size?

    2. If you insert a MVS cart into an AES system can you damage the cart or system then?

The mvs cart will not fit into a AES slot

It would be like shoving a square peg into
    a round hole.

If you actually did get it in......it would
break either the system or cart or both

Won't fit any ways unless you use a Phantom 1 converter.

there is only one type of memory card for the neo geo.i always liked that you could take your memory card from home to the arcade and such.

Far as I know, there's just one @ 2K. You can buy multiple ones if you need it, but you'll have to buy the games first

The nice thing is that the saves work on MVS and AES games, at least for most games.

haha, i do have some games, but no memory card.
Another question, can someone tell me what a consolized MVS is? I did some google search and found out its some "homemade console" that plays MVS games. How do you do it? And does a consolized MVS also play AES?

It's exactly that. Someone takes an arcade MVS board, modifies it to play on a tv (or other monitor), and often encloses it in a nice package. They only play MVS.

Heh, same. I've got an AES with a bunch of games (a smallish bunch, but nothing in Neo Geo land is ever really 'small'), but no memory card. They aren't super common, and I wonder how many NG owners go without one.

I've certainly never bothered with one.

I was thinking of buying a memory card, but it only store highscore doesnt it? Its not that important for me tho, but its nice to have

Another question hehe. I have a game called Mircale Adventure. It says so on the box, on the manual and on the game. But when I start the game it says Spinmaster (which is most likely the US/EU name).
I've wondered if it could be a MVS conversion to AES. Is there anyway to check this?

It saves extra characters and progress for games as well, for those that offer it...I believe some have a level select, or perhaps let you resume at a previous fight. I'm not quite sure of the details.

I'm also not sure about Neo Geo CD games...something like Samurai Spirits RPG should use more memory card space...

Having a memory card, for me, is a hugely important part of the full Neo experience. And no, it doesn't save highscores (the only game that comes to mind that actually saves "highscores" is Over Top, an obscure 1996 racing game that saves best times). It generally serves to save the stage (or in the case of a fighting game) opponent that you died on, or whatnot. There are maybe 6 or so of the 140+ Neo cartridges that don't support it.

Many games have level selects for memory card saves, too. Like Metal Slug X - if you have a memory card save, you are treated to a cool little "side" menu for selecting your level, with some cool unique graphics and a rotating thing with mini versions of all the stages for you to select.

And contrary to popular opinion (maybe that's why the old 2k cards sell for such insane $40+ prices on ebay), it's a little known fact that the Neo's memory card slot is a standard PCMCIA type-2 slot, and is compatible with many 3rd party brands. So, the best way to go is to get a cheap 64MB PCMCIA card, that way you can have a save on the final level of every cartridge made for the system. WAY better than settling for the lame dozen or so saves on the brand-name card.

@Geddon_jt, thanks for finally explaining to me why I'd want one of these things. I never knew it did more than high score saves. Awesome!
