Default Non-working Donpachi (Saturn) - any suggestions?

I recently bought a copy of Donpachi for the Saturn. It was quite cheap, as the seller mentioned it had a scratch on the disk - but said that it played fine.

However, when I received the game it simply does not play on my machine.

I have tried every method I can. It is a modded PAL machine, so I have tried it in Jap, PAL and USA mode (just in case!). I have tried it in 50Hz and in 60Hz. No joy - it just spins and then goes to the CD Player control panel. It will then play the music tracks - but it won't boot the game.

Also tried it in PAL mode with the Action Replay 5 in 1. With this it just hangs forever on the "Loading" screen.

I emailed the seller, and he insists that it worked fine on his Jap Saturn. Is there any reason why this would be the case, and yet it would not work on my machine?

He has asked me what I want to do - and I have said that unless he can think of any other solution, I would like to return the game to him for a refund.

Have you tried to resurface the disc to help remedy the scratch?

Nah, I've got no re-surfacing kit to do it with, and I don't work near a game store any more, so I can't just pop in and get one.
