I'm not even going to try to get the complete collection on this one. Just the ones I want (I've got right around 50 right now). So many of those 1200+ releases do nothing for me - 1200 fighting games, driving games, RPGs and sports games? Noooo thanks. But that's just my opinion.
Some machines I actively collect for...others, I just want to play.
I assume Buyatari means he thinks they are stolen.
Sometimes a customer comes in with something so fishy that you know something is up.
But as long as you asked for I.D. and they didnt actually tell you they are stolen you are clean.
But then again maybe he was like "Hey kids jack me that there playstation games and Ill give ya money!"

The first Lightspan disk I ever got was traded into my store.
I'd never heard of them before. Here it was. An Official US black bottom PSX education game that I'd never seen or heard of before.
What the heck is that !!
Well I didn't offer alot. Barely anything as it didn't have the original case or instructions. The kid refused the offer and took his stuff back.
It started to weigh on my mind and I just had to have it. Maybee it wasn't anything special after all there was no PSX list which was 100% complete at the time. Next time I saw that kid I told him to bring that game back and I'd give him more for it. He took the offer this time and it sat in my closet. No big deal just a rarer educational game that sat there.
Then I saw a boxed set of Lightspan disks on eBay. 40 some disks. All sealed and from the pictures looked just like the educational disk I told you about. I won the auction for under 100 bucks and was pretty excitied. Now, no one that I knew collected PSX at that time and when I told some of the other collectors about the set I didn't find anyone who was the slight bit interested.
Thats why I let the other boxed sets, yes he had at least 2 others, go. When I got the box it seemed like there were disks missing and I emailed the seller. He worked for some school district and the sets were never used. I don't remember where he worked but it was out of state. He explained that all the boxes had the same contents so either the missing disks weren't ever produced or the boxes were custom packed for that target school audience. To this day I don't know how many disks Lightspan produced though I know how many they were licensed for. Over 80 and thats more than any other company.
So in truth, only 1 lightspan disk was ever traded in to my store and its my only double. It just sounds funnier to say that legions of children take these disks from their schools and turn them over for cash at their local game store.
I did recently get a PSX traded in. It had a strange sticker underneath and had property of Cleveland Public School System stickers on it. The guy who traded it in was there with his younger kids and he wore a uniform of the Cleveland Public School system. Janitor maybee I dunno? I asked if he had any of the educational disks and if he did to bring them in as he would get good trade for them. He said he did but hasn't been back. I did take his info from the drivers license (as I do with all systems) and spoke with him about the Cleveland Public School system sticker. I didn't push the issue as I secretly didn't want to hear he had stolen it, but he pretty much led me to believe it wasn't stolen and in truth I did believe him. Anyway, the PSX unit could have been stolen, yes its possible, but the Lightspan project is pretty old at this point. Anything that comes through our doors could be stolen.
I have had stolen items traded in to the store before and its not pretty. Parents and children crying over stolen items and bringing the cops in right behind them. Kids who steal from other kids and even break into other houses isn't something I've condoned or ever will. Once I find out it is happening the kid is required to have a parent present from then on and adults are banned.
To be honest though, if I bellieve a child had swipped a few of these PSX disks I Would consider it as bad as stealing from another child or someone home. To me its an obsolete project and while Lightspan would have you believe it was a viable learning tool I doubt any kid learned anything from a PSX. Attempts to make "learning fun" with the sole use of a game console have failed before and will again. The value of these disks to the Educational system at this point is pretty much nil.
So yeah I guess I'm not a morally straight arrow in all respects but I never said I was nor do I expect others to be so either. My number one rule is to try to get through life without hurting people. Its not always easy but as anyone who knows me will testify, its one I do strive for.
The mod chip thing had NOTHING to do with morals or my personal opionion. It had to do with the rules of this message board and the job I was set with as forum moderator. Maybee I should have posted "This isn't allowed here" instead of "Mod Chips are illegal" but then I guess I should edit posts when I'm drunk either. hehe
This is a good thread. Please don't ruin it. If you want to address anything I've said so far about this then do it in one of the 5 or 6 other threads you have already started on this.
BTW That double I have is up for trade. But *warning* it does come from questionable orgins.
Adam
I added the for a reason. Don't let this weigh so heavily on your soul.
There is a huge difference from a mod chip and a OMG! rare that "might" be stolen..
Fear your thoughts because they become your words
Fear your words because they become your actions
Fear your actions because they become your habits
Fear your habits because they become your character
Fear your character because it becomes your destiny

Adam,
I was wondering, if you have it, if you could post a list of known Lightspan titles? Thanks.
Interesting story about them too. I'd also not heard of them.
I emailed a friend of mine who had a contact at Lightspan for a complete list sometime ago.
The list came directly from a Lightspan employee (who might have one time worked at Atari or Activision in the 80's) Anyway they sent me an Excel file with all the titles.
Problem is, the disks I have on hand contridict the list they sent me. So who knows at this point.
I do know that they have more liceneses with Sony than any other publisher which makes it all the more suprizing that no one has heard of them. Agian you could send them $12,000 or whatever it costs to obtain the disks BUT then you'd still only get the disks for the age group of your child. (K-2),( 3-4), (5-6)
Ok so if you have 3 kids and $36,000 then it looks like you can complete the set.
What a deal !!
Adam
Below is a the excel file they sent me. Please note that I believe there are several errors in this listing based on the games I have on hand.
