Default Potential Great Find, Advice Needed

I stopped by a store that I frequent last weekend, and I was told that they would be getting in a copy of Radiant Silvergun this week. I quickly put my name on the hold list for it, not yet knowing what they'd be charging. It still isn't in, but it looks like it's gonna go for around $180. This is probably barely affordable for me if at all, but the same time I know there's a good chance that I'll NEVER see another copy of this, especially in a place that isn't eBay. That said, I'm not really sure what to do.

If you were in this situation, what would you do?

EDIT: Changed thread title to avoid confusion.

As with all things, make sure you can afford it without throwing more necessary expenses (bills, gas for the car, food, rent/mortgage, etc.) out of whack. If so, then go for it!

When I read the topic, I expected to read someone picked up an Adventure Vision for a dollar or something similar, not that someone is on the waiting list for Radiant Silvergun at eBay price.

If it were *ME*, I wouldn't do it. Do you collect for the Saturn? So you REALLY want RS? If so then I guess go for it. If it were me, I could find cooler gaming stuff to spend $180 on. I just know that I wouldn't spend enough time playing the game to make it worth the price.

    Chris

EDIT: I agree with the Captain. I thought that you had already found something cool. Under no circumstances can paying $180 for RS EVER be considered the find of a lifetime.

There are 4 on eBay right now. The lowest is $160 BIN, looks mint, has the spinecard. Next one is $189 BIN, looks mint with the spinecard.

Did you research this at all before starting this topic? I'm just curious...

Come back when you get it for 5.00 and we'll speak of a "Great Find", but a Radiant Silvergun will never be the "Find Of A Lifetime".

Unless you find a warehouse full of sealed cases of Radiant Silvergun and the guy gives them to you for a Blow Job.

It's not that rare in the wild, actually. I've come across two copies in the last few years in the US. The game was imported by quite a few people.

I wouldn't say 180 is a *bad* price, but you're not getting a deal by any stretch.

I figured the "?" in the title was an indicator that nothing had happened yet. I'll make that clearer in the future.

Well, the point people are trying to make is $180 for RS isn't exactly Find of a Lifetime material, or really even much of a find at all. Since you asked "If you were in this situation, what would you do?" I think what we're all trying to tell you is $180 is about average for what you'd pay for RS on eBay and not really anything to break the bank over.

Do what you want, but unless you were really wanting RS and you don't like eBay, I'd pass.

Not trying to harsh yer mellow or anything. That's just the way it is.

It's not a particularly great find, $180 is about average for RS.

Buy it if you want, but you could probably get 3 other top-class shooters for the same price.

I understand completely. The 'of a lifetime' portion of it pertained to it being at a local store.

The more I think about it, though, as great as it would be to have it as a centerpiece of my collection, I'm not sure if it's the best idea. I don't know how much if any use it would get (due to my lack of modding/swap trick skills), anyway. So I guess we'll see what happens. Also, the DP guide still has it listed as an R0...might this mean it's not known just how rare it actually is, or?

There are always a couple on eBay so it's not mega-rare, just in constant demand.

And for 180.00, I'm sure you can get 15-20 great shooters for various systems...not just one nice "centerpiece".

You should know that Captain Wrong hates Radiant Silvergun. And kittens. And Tenessee.

Try to at least talk them down to $160, fergoshsakes.

BTW, I saw Deadly Towers for $0.99 the other day at EB.

EDIT: Plus, if you've got that much cheese to blow, you should be buying Steel Battalion (and an Xbox to play it on, if necessary).

IMO..If you've been looking for the game and have found it,go for it....I sometimes impulse buy stuff and really don't get a great deal
But I like getting something like this for cheap.. say $5.00 then I know I got a Score!!!

If the game is in good condition plus the price compares to that of Ebay..And your looking to spent that much then go for it..
Only because If I'm going to spend the same amount for a game on Ebay that I can get in person then I'd rather buy it in person..
That's not a score for me paying the going rate.....It's just buying something I wanted..

I wouldn't pay anywhere near $180 for it in person, mainly because you don't have any real competition in your area. I would imagine it would take years to sell at that price, if it ever would sell. I would offer him $100 and see what he says about that.

I know some EB stores carried it when it was new in the US, for a brief period they stocked Saturn imports for decent prices (I got mine for $59.99 sometime in '98 or '99)...and it was in the redneck area of Central Florida.

So I assume it was pretty heavily imported by those standards, but as everyone else has said, $180 isn't really a "deal".
