Default GBA River City Ransom vs. NES version

I'm currently playing the heck out of River City Ransom for NES via the awesomeness that is the JNes for PSP. I'm thinking about buying the GBA version. Is it the same game with better graphics or a whole new adventure? I've read mixed reviews other places online, but I want to know your opinion, fellow DPers.

I tried searching for a topic on this, but came up with nothing.

If you change your avatar I'll tell you.

I've had this a while but loaned out my GBA months ago and haven't ever bothered to get it back yet. The differences from my playtime long ago were mainly graphics and the fact that you have a bumbling AI idiot roaming around with you at all times. According to my friend, the secrets were mostly the same (such as a hidden room in a tunnel). Maybe that's mildly useful.

It's mostly the same game with some extra touches, like getting CPU characters to join you, and some secret item shops. I thought it was worth it, though.

Thanks for reminding me of an oft-overlooked feature of DP. I totally forgot about the reviews section.

The lack of a 2-player cooperative mode severely cripples the GBA version, IMO. Yeah, they have a lot of cool new weapons. Sure, you can recruit a posse that joins you. They even tease you by allowing you to swap saved data with a friend and have that "friend" (controlled by a CPU) fight beside you.

But it's just not the same as sitting there with a buddy and beating the crap out of the baddies, watching them go "BARF!" and "Mommy!" and whatnot.

It's faster-paced. The graphics are better. There are more moves, more weapons, more gangs, more food, more everything. BUT...
You are startled by a grim snarl. Before you, you see 1 Red dragon. Will your stalwart band choose to (F)ight or (R)un?

The new gangs are hilarious. Their members are all named after famous people. There's one that's a gang of rappers; Tupac, Snoop Dogg, etc. All in all I'd say the GBA version is better. Give it a try.

I prefer the GBA version because of the cartridge save feature. Its SO much better than imputing those long tedious passwords that have easily confusing characters that cause you to resort to starting over.

The sprites also seem to be a bit larger although it might just be because of the conversion to the smaller screen.

Im short: the NES version is much better.

IM still a HUGE fan of the NES game. I´ve beat it dozens of times, and spent days and days worth of time doing just crazy things in the game.

The gba game was a letdown...I dont like the digitized graphics in the background...the colors and graphics in the NES game´s backgrounds looked cooler.

ALso the GBA version is kind of poorly designed. THe moves dont come out as easily as in the NES version. The menus are troublesome. In short: Stick with the NES version..its WAY better
