Default What version of Golden Axe do I have?

    Hi Folks,

My brother was cleaning out some crap in his old college dorm and he found a Mega Drive Golden Axe cart (loose) in there. I thought it was rather odd to find an MD (not Genesis) game in such a strange place, being in America and all.

Does anyone have any pics of the Japanese and/or PAL version of this cart? I'm trying to determine which one I might have, since the pic is different than the American released one. I appreciate any help you offer!

    Yours,
    Rob

I've got both, and the Genesis version (if indeed I have it) was the last version. PAL has straight edges, NTSC-J has ridged edges on the cartridge.

Thank, you Cauterize! It's the one on the left. Is that the Euro one? You rock! \^_^/

Edit: Thanks to you too, Ed! I think I have the NTSC-J one, then, judging from the ridges. Just to be 100% now, did the Japanese and Euro carts have the same pic on it (Since I'm quite sure the American cart had a different pic)?

Cauterize showed PAL copies, because they have no ridges (the European MD logo and such give it away too).

Yes I noticed the ridges. I'm not sure I ever noticed the MD logo was different than the Japanese before on any carts. Thanks for the tip on that!

If it's the same shape as a Genesis cart then it's PAL. If it's got rounded corners and won't fit in a Genesis 1 or 2 then it's Japanese (or possibly Asian).
I guess there's an outside chance it's Brazilian (same shape as US/Euro carts, but with a different MD logo).

Huh, I never really noticed before that JPN megadrive carts had those ridges on the sides. Seems I'm learning something all the time! This is a pic of my Golden Axe collection. Maybe it can help some.

I've noticed that besides the ridges, the JPN Golden Axes cart and box's do not have the grid lines of the US and PAL versions. And if the cart artwork on the original US Golden Axe should differ from the US Classic version, my apologies. That's what I got when I bought them.

I pretty sure there are some Aussie 'Gold Collection' Golden Axe carts as well.

Just Golden Axe II. The carts are the same as other PAL copies, it's just the box that's different.
