Default SNES and Genesis, together at last.

I was just sitting here when I happened to look down at the floor. There they sat. The two fighters form one of the biggest boxing matches ever to be found in the gaming arena. Funny enough, only in death (console death that is) could they get along. My wife happened to be playing the two last night (Sega 6 Pak and Super Mario All-Stars) and I hadn’t put them away yet.

What great systems, what great times. I consider the 16-bit generation to be the great “Golden Age” of gaming. Some of the best games ever made played in those two systems and I think they deserve our respect (not that I feel respect isn’t given around here, there’s a serious amount of to be found) I know this is nothing new nor is it some great revelation, it’s just an older gamer feeling nostalgic and wanting to show it to his DP friends.

Long live the SNES, long live the genesis!!! (and hopefully, long live the rest of us)

I swear I can smell your stinky hands from here!

    god bless it indeed.

Pretty much the same feeling you get when you see a PS2 and a GameCube sitting next to each other...because when you have both...arguements, differences, etc. Do not matter anymore in the comfort of your own home.

the 16-bit era is forever eternal.
These cartridges are dirty as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!

When I first opened this thread, I was expecting to see pictures of some insane home-made machine that could play SNES and Genesis games...

    dammit.

But still, the 16-bit era was absolutely fantastic. I miss it terribly. tear.

    Me too!

I agree that the sixteen bit generation is/was the Golden Age of video games.

sometimes I reflect on how games are now to how they were then and seriously miss the days when a new game Really meant a new game in all aspects. So very few of them now and days.

that's what I originally thought too. Oh well, it was a great time though, yet I think the NES/SMS war was way more heated

Ummmm... if by "heated" you mean "not a war at all", then yes. Seriously - that was the ONLY generation in console gaming where there was no battle at all. Even PSX had the hype of the N64, the <s>fanboys of the</s> Saturn, the last great era of the PC, and the Dreamcast at the way end to contend with.

Unless you're European, where for some reason the Master System was a bit more accepted.

Maybe he was thinking in terms of games. Both the NES and SMS had great stuff in the '80s even though the market share difference was enormous.

Anyway, I like the pic in the first post. All it needs is a TG16.

The 16-bit era is one of my favourites, yet at the end of it all, I don't feel much love for the Genesis/Mega Drive.

Back in the day, I had nothing against - I was even prepared to buy one. Shopping for my first console in 1995, I couldn't care less which one I got. I simply went with the SNES because the majority of my friends had one, and I figured I could sponge games off them.

I did play Mega Drive though - Sonic 2 being one of the most significant games.

Yet looking back, it's the SNES that I love, and the Mega Drive that I don't.

Everything about the SNES has the "anything Sega can do, I can do better" thing about it.

I could count all the Mega Drive games that I love on two hands, yet I'd need a page to list all my SNES favourites.

Oh, and that picture once again highlights the ugliness of the US SNES compared to the competition.

I don't think there will ever be an era that matches the 16-bit era. Like I've mentioned before...I was obsessed with the SNES, and still am too. It's my favorite system by far. I never really liked the Genesis all that much except for the Sonic games, which are some of my favorite platformers of all time.

I used to get really mad during the 16-bit days when Sega would have those commercials on TV that bashed the SNES...making fun of how "slow" it was compared to the Genesis. Yet, when you compared everything else such as graphics, sound, color, and overall quality of games...the SNES dominated.

Like others, I agree, this was probably my favorite era. But real tough call I love the 8 bit NES a whole lot too! I had both, but the Genesis was strictly for sports games for me, everything else on SNES.

I think the peripheral that has given me the most joy ever came from this era, Tee Vee golf on the Genesis with the golf club..... those were the days!
