Isn't Hori sort of a first party developer? Either that or Nintendo openly approves of their various products.

EDIT: I looked into it a bit, and found that Nintendo licensed the Hori SNES-style gamepad for the Nintendo Gamecube. Anything else is beyond me.

Sorry I'm late to this discussion... but it's a "Horipad Mini 64". It's not a fake. It was produced only in Japan by Hori Electric Co., Ltd. and does indeed feature a joystick much like the GameCube's. It's also quite small, about 4.5" across the front. It has two shoulder buttons on each side (L and R, and a Z button on each side below that). There is no Z trigger underneath. It does have a standard rumble/memory slot on the bottom. They come in just about every color the original controllers came in, including transparent and two-tone colors.

The Hori Pad looks fantastic. I can just imagine the comfort. Too bad they are so unavailable.
