Nintendo "Mario Madness Money"?

I came across some guy's auction for "Nintendo Mario Madness Money". By his description, it seems like some place in Las Vegas held some kind of Nintendo party, printed prize money, and this guy thinks it's worth $97.75. Or is this an actual thing licensed by Nintendo?

Ouch, youd've been better off keeping the money! So it is an actual Nintendo thing, not some worthless private stuff?

You got into the NWC finals (I was born in December of that year, so I missed them)???!!! It looks real to me, and could they really be used to buy Nintendo stuff? (I gathered from WOG post that you could) Were there any other ways to get it than the NWC?
