Default RPG for a 10 yo?

I have a Friend who has a daughter who has not played many video games, he would like to get a RPG for her to play. She's only 10, and from what i see cannot really manage kingdom hearts. Is there anything for the younger/newer gamer in terms of RPGs? mostly looking for something on PSX/2.

I think that Guardian's Crusade for PS One might be worth a look.

Okage: Shadow King is another good choice. It's simple in gameplay, and I can imagine a 10-year-old really getting a kick out of the characters and story.

If she wants an action/RPG, try the highly enjoyable (and low-priced) Threads of Fate.

If they had a N64 I would recommend Paper Mario as a RPG/Action introduction. Its a simple game to introduce the RPG genre.

Get a Super Nintendo emulator, burn it onto a PS2 CD, and include "Mario RPG." That game is *awesome* for kids. Great music, great characters, great play... it's just great! In fact, I think I'll go play it right now!

Another possibility is "Chrono Trigger" included with the Final Fantasy Chronicles PS1 game. Not as "kiddie" as Mario RPG, but still easy enough to understand with fun anime-style characters.

My last suggestion is "Final Fantasy 9" which feels more like a children's storybook than a game thanks to its whimsical music, artistic backgrounds, and cute characters. I think I'll go play that too!

Final Fantasy, Mystic Quest would be my suggestion, though it's for the Super NES.

I believe Final Fantasy 9 might just be the ticket though, if you're stuck with just the PS1 releases- anyone know if Monster Rancher might be appropriate? Never played it, only know it has appeal similar to Pokemon.

running any emulator is something i'm not going to do. And i said PSX/PS2 games, most people get the picture. I am all full aware of Mario RPG and all it's glory.

No wonder i was told not to listen to you

Maybe the Digimon World games? I'm not sure...there aren't a lot of kid-friendly RPGs, espeically not for PSX/PS2. Point Blank might be good though The first Point Blank game has an RPG mode where all the battles are light gun fights It's fairly easy (cept for light gun skills that need practicing) and VERY kid-friendly looking. Wortrh a shot (no pun intended).

The Twisted Tales of Spike McFang might not be a bad choice. It's a silly parody of the vampire legend, and I've heard it's really fun just to throw your hat around killing cute little garlic cloves.

There are a few "bad words" I'd like to say to you too, but instead I'll just make two points:
    (1) Why are you not yelling at the guys who suggested *N64* games like Paper Mario? Don't they deserve the same hatred you are showing towards me? After all, they too violated your "i said PSX/PS2" rule. To be totally fair, you should be yelling at them too.

    (2) I gave you *two* very good PSX suggestions: Final Fantasy Chronicles & Final Fantasy 9. Both of these meet your PSX/PS2 rule. Why did you choose to ignore these PSX suggestions?

I suggest you take these two points into consideration, and please re-consider your response. It was not necessary to post such rude words towards myself. Especially when I was trying to HELP YOU with suggestions.

True, but I don't think FF7 would be a good choice for a 10-yr-old girl. Or FF8. Final Fantasy 9 has a nice fairy-tale style with cute characters like Vivi... making it perfect for kids IMHO.

FF10 might work too. It's so ridiculously easy that it makes a great intro for beginners.

Well maybe because Final Fantasy 9 and Chronicles are horrible for kids and N64 games don't involve emulation and mod chips..

Why are so many people being MORONS about this????

Look...FF games are not for 10 year olds! FF7-10 are NOT for younger kids and WAYYYYYY too long and involved for most 10 year olds. While 9 might be a story that a kid could understand, it's still rather long and tedious. The following would also probably not be good for kids:

    Suikoden
    Ogre Battle
    Beyond the Beyond

Threads of Fate and Okage might be good, but Okage is REALLY slow and drawn out, so a 10 year old might get bored easily. Chronicles MIGHT be ok, but FF2 isn't really as good as FF3 IMO, so I'd recommend FF Anthology. Guardian's Crusade might be good too...I've never played it.

What part of "for the PSX/PS2 and good for a 10 year old girl" did some of you people not understand? And Quazick, what the HELL are you talking about with that dumb mod chip comment? Are you trying to pathetically imply that Chunk only uses emulation and burns, which we all know is not true (especially those of us who have traded games to him)?

No dude read the entire topic before you bitch at me!

Get a Super Nintendo emulator, burn it onto a PS2 CD, and include "Mario RPG." That game is *awesome* for kids. Great music, great characters, great play... it's just great! In fact, I think I'll go play it right now!
TheAveng (GamingGuy) said to burn SM Rpg so that the girl could play it on the ps2.

I just simply said it's best he stay away from that.

I'd go with chrono trigger from FF Chronicles. I think I would've been able to play that when I was ten (off the top of my head, I was probably about ten - twelve when I played FF4, and a year or so older when I played CT).

Also, for the record, FF7 is one of the worst of the series. Thanks.
