Default Like the hack better than the original?

OK, I searched, I don't think anyone has done this before.

The recent topic about finding a home version of Ms. Pac-Man with the speed up hack got me thinking. Are there other hacks people prefer to the "real thing." (Heh, really Ms. Pac-Man is a hack of Pac-Man itself, if you get into the history.)

I'm thinking of stuff like the Pac-Man/Ms. Pac-Man speed up, Tempest Tubes, Galaga with the turbo shot hack, etc., etc. Myself, I'm growing quite fond of the Super Missile Attack hack for Missile Command. It's a little bit harder and a little more random. Just enough make a game I've played a million times suprize me.

It's too bad that so many retro packs miss out on these things, though, IIRC, you could go Tempest Tubes on the Dreamcast Atari pack. A lot of these things were pretty common back in the day and many people still remember the games this way.

The Rainbow Edition hack of Street Fighter II:Champion Edition is neat, but I'm not so sure I'd go so far as to say that its better than the game it's based on. The Rainbow Edition allows you to unleash super moves in mid air (heat-seeking, air-borne projectiles!) and allows you to morph into another fighter in mid-battle. Unfortunately, the game is also somewhat unstable as far as the behaviour of super moves is concerned.

I prefer Baby Maker (a hack of the NES port of Dig Dug) to the original.

I kind of like the 2600 Bros. SMB hack, but I'm not sure if I like it better than the original.

I've played a NES rom of Great Giana Sisters which is a hack of the SMB1 rom. and ive played a bunch of Mario hacks that are really fun with all new levels. id recommend downloading roms from edgeemu.com, they got the real rom, along with all the known hacks zipped up.

Some of the Super Mario World hacks I've seen (not just mine ) are awe-inspiring. Super Demo World: TLC and Mario's Odyssey come to mind. It's just amazing with how much the original SMW can be expanded...
