Default Very expensive neo geo pocket game

I always thought faselei was the most expensive neo geo game, but this one goes well over any amount that has ever been paid for faselei.

Why is it going for so much? Is it really that rare? Is it a puzzle game?

The English version is VERY hard to find.

It really is, but damned if I'd ever pay that for a puzzle game made just a few years ago.

    Is it a puzzle game?
It's Reversi... you may also know the game as Othello. You have to surround the other player's chips with yours. If you have a chip of your color on the opposite side of a consecutive row of opponent chips, by placing your piece "enclosing" his row you turn all of his chips over to your color.

Well let me give you the scope... Pocket Reversi along with a few other titles (Gals Fighters, Evolution, Faselei to name 3) were introduced to the UK right before SNK pulled out of the market. They never made it to the US. And hence they had very little time to get bought. In some cases the shops didn't have time to get them onto shelves before they were recalled!

Evolution and Faselei are the two more likely to be seen. Rare yes, but several hundred copies were sold before the recall. Pocket Reversi on the other hand is rumoured to have had less than 100 copies distributed, of which maybe 20 were sold. Certainly I only know 2 people with a copy besides the one currently on eBay.

And the ones that got recalled? Destroyed, or reused elsewhere. So you have a game with possibly no more than 20 copies existing in the entire world. That's why it's rare and valuable!

And as I'm now doing the NGPC collecting thing, I will be gunning for that copy regardless of the cost. Actually the seller has a lot of the NGPC games I still need, so I'll be doing a lot of bidding on Sunday...

And the really annoying thing is I'm almost certain I saw it on sale when I bought my NGPC back in 2000 >

    Thanks for clearing that up.

I still think it's an awful lot of money for a game like that. Rare or not.

Default Rare, but not that rare

Pocket Reversi is rare, but was not impossible to get. In fact, I ordered mine from Special Reserve in the UK some three months after the "Recall". They were already sold out of Fasalei and Evolution, but they still had this game. I'm guessing it sold poorly given the general apathy people have towards this type of game.

Don't forget about The Last Blade as well. That one came out to the Euro market rather late as well.

Funny.... I wonder which section he would list that item in.

    Vintage games?

I dunno if I'd call it vintage if it came out a few weeks ago.

Not everyone returned stuff at the same rate, and certainly I was still picking up titles way after the recall too. Just a pity I didn't get a couple of the really hard ones :/

Slightly OT, but what are the rare NGP games? I've never really looked much into the system and Ive been a little curious after seeing a few games around?

Metal Slug 2 and Cool Boarders go for good money also, but they aren't anywhere near as rare as the ones I mentioned above.

Those titles that Matt mentioned were especially hard to get, because all of us US collectors knew as soon as SNK slammed thier doors that the english language versions of games we were dying for (namely Faselei and Evolution) would never make it here. Rumor has it that the packaging and docs for the US were ready to go and destroyed once SNK US closed.

Speaking of things that disappeared; wonder what happened to the SNK MP3 cart? I got to play a demo of it at E3 in 2000... it's really too bad it never came out; at the time, a cheap MP3 add-on would've been cool, and might have saved the system.

OT: Speaking of MP3 players and E3; @Joe - remember dinner and the Songboy folks?

The only one I got was Faselei, and I got it about two years ago I think. I didn't even know there WAS a recall....I just got it cause it looked interesting and I collect strategy and RPG games. Decided I couldn't afford Evolution and I never heard of Pocket Reversi or I would have got it then...ah well. So what sort of recall was this anyway?
