Are you using a screen protector?

Have you tried going into Pictochat (or, even better, SM64DS)? (You can use the buttons in the DS's main menu just as well as the touch screen.) Once you get to the drawing program of your choice, try to identify the behavior of the touch screen.

Also, is the settings menu asking for things like the time and date? It could be a battery problem.

There is no *lens* on DS touch screens. You are touching the screen surface itself.

You may need a new screen. Not cheap. You should try Nintendo first.

I could likely fix it, or I'd be willing to buy it as well.
