    Default Clear Purple Playstation 1

Hi, I recently purchased a clear purple playstation 1. It appears it is a regular playstation that was put inside a clear purple case (as the controller ports are regular grey). Is there anything "special" about these other than the "different" case, ie did the case package come with any other modifications?

    Thanks,
    Tom

Most likely it's an aftermarket clear case. You used to get them everywhere for cheap, and simply put your regular playstation hardware inside.

If my memory doesn't fail me, there were no clear-case playstation versions produced.

Not an official US release. I can garantee you that its nothing more than a case mod. End of the 90's those were very common and I had numerous friends that swapped cases and painted them and all kinds of stuff. If its a pretty purple and you like it then huzzah. If you got it thinking it was a OMGWTFBBQ!!1!11!! R@R3 variant its not.

Alot of the time when they had case mods (at least around me at the time) they were also chip modded too.
Because it makes no attempt to be great, it is therefore extremely great.

Nope, the white-color VCD PSX was released in Asia (outside Japan). The other official colors are grey, PSone, green (debug), blue (debug), dark blue (10 million), though there are a couple other colors which had official Sony controllers (red, for example).

I'm pretty sure the MPEG/VCD compatible Playstation was available on asian markets, I even have the very first issue of PSM in which it states this very fact.

Also, don't forget about the black Net Yaroze PS. It was for small-scale gaming development and things like that.
