    Default Portable SNES in 2011?

I understand that Nintendo's patent on the original NES/Famicom has experied. This is how Messiah Entertainment can come out with the NEX.

So, I'm wondering if the patent on the SNES will run out in 2011? If the famicom patent lasted 20 years, then is it the same thing with the SNES?

What I would absolutely love to see is a portable SNES with a 5 inch or maybe even 6 or 7 inch screen. The SNES carts would slide in the bottom or the top of the unit.

You know on this patent thing, have other systems patents expired like the Atari 2600 or Intellivision or anything like that? If that is the case, then where are the 2600 clones and the 2600 portables?

Given how readily Nintendo themselves seem to be dipping into their past library (i.e. the downloadable retrogames for Revolution), I'd imagine that we could plan on seeing a Nintendo handheld that could just download, store, and play Nintendo titles from NES through Gamecube or so by 2011.

2011 is a long time from now, a lot can happen between now and then.

Hmmm...interesting thinking. I can't say I know one way or another, but it's not a bad idea. I'd probably buy one, given the chance. Which reminds me...

Didn't someone already make a portable SNES just for kicks?

Man, that must be a pretty amazing trick. To be able to force a SNES cart into the GBA cart slot. What kind of magical shrinking device do you use?

It's probably the same device I use on my johnson. Paying for her stitches and transfusions gets old after awhile.

GBA is sorta like a portable SNES. I dont think someone will make a portable SNES and start selling alot. The SNES cartridges arent very portable.

There were portable NES-Systems in 1995. Asian pirates really don't care about patents and copyrights.

That would be so amazing. I love SNES more than NES, and I cant wait for the NEX to come out. We should all start a petition or have someone contact Messiah and talk to them about the possibilites!

a year or two ago in a gaming magazine i found an article and website link to a custom handheld maker. the guy had created a portable snes, a few atari things, and even a portable ps1 (the back end was open, so i could see where that might be a problem). i think he made them for people at about 250 a pop.

Yes, that was Ben Heckendorn's page at http://www.classicgaming.com/vcsp/ . He's the one who wrote the aforementioned book.

Why do people call the GBA a portable SNES? Both systems have drastically different hardware: RAM, CPU, etc. Sure there are parallels, but then again using that same reasoning, I could have called the Neo Geo Pocket a portable SNES.

Mayhap because it has a load of SNES ports? That and the graphics for most games are SNES level.

Since we will living in delapidated city ruins eating rats and trying to elude the A.I. controlled hunter/seeker bots roaming the charred hellscape searching for human flesh then I am not sure anyone will be worrying about it in 2011

It also has tons of NES ports, arcade ports, and ports from other consoles. Does that make it a portable NES, portable arcade, etc? No. If it can't run my SNES carts, it is not a portable SNES.
