using a laptop monitor as a screen for ps2

im moving to london in a month, and would like to continue gaming while im there (i will be scaling back my collection). im really only interested in bring a ps2, but i don't want to go there and have to buy a tv for a year. i was wondering if anyone has been able to play a ntsc ps2 using their laptop screen as the tv. ive looked into video capture devices, but i have no idea if theyll work, and while its easy to convert a ps2 to vga video, most laptops do not have a vga input, only a vga output. any advice?

or should i just buy a ps2 ntsc to pal convert and buy a friggin tv?

I asked this same question on a couple of different forums and the standard answer I got was no, it's impossible to use a laptop's LCD screen for anything other than its intended purpose. In general the explinations I got were that most laptop screens are proprietary and you would have to do a lot (a LOT) of custom work to get one to work.

My brother gave me a Toshiba laptop for Xmas that had AV and s-video inputs standard. Not too bad for a lcd screen but the refresh rate was noticable.

you need to source LCD monitor with RGB input - many in-car LCD monitors do come with RGB but at smaller size...

Using computer LCD you need the PS2 VGA cable from SONY and no you can't get it anymore and even if you do find it expect to pay a LOT for it... or you can use those cheap nasty line doubler to convert the horrible composite to VGA signal - be warned you won't like the result. Or get the expensive transcoder to convert RGB/YUV to VGA - again won't be cheap solution I'm afraid...
