Ebay closed it because of the word "prototype".

    For your viewing pleasure.

What is that in the bottom right of the screen? And either that TV is really blurry, or that ring around the triforce isn't very symmetrical.

Hmm. Say what you will, but it does bear a slight resemblance to Link's Awakening.

Edit: you beat me to it!

Well if this is for real, given that he's from a relatively poor city; I'm tempted to make a lowball bid on it, if and only if he could prove to me its authenticity.

Check the articlescan. Are those screenshots from Links Awakening for Gameboy? I havnt played it so I cant tell.
It doesnt seem impossible to me. I would love to try the ROM if it was out there.
How odd is it that in the scanned article it says "The rumors have been flying around for years that Nintendo was working on a Zelda game for gameboy." Has anyone ever read of any article in a magazine that even hinted about a rumor of them making a third installment for the NES?

Relatively poor city? Perhaps you should check into Winnipeg closely. It has low unemployment, property values have increased by a greater percentage in the last three years than over the last twenty.

The average wage is slightly lower than large Canadian metropolis', but it also retains one of the lowest costs of living in Canada.

In many ways, Winnipeg is a haven for the middle class. The only thing suspectfully high in Wpg, is property tax.

Now, it is a relatively CHEAP city. It is well known in financial circles as "The coupon cutter capital of Canada". It is widely used as a test market for large chains like McDonalds, by the motto of "If it flies there, it'll fly anywhere".

Lastly, by the look in the pictures in his blog, he is neither hurting for money, nor unsocial.

Although he is looking to upgrade ONE of his Harmon Kardon amplifiers. Perhaps you could swing a trade.

Check the screenshots, are they taken from Link's Awakening? The map looks very simular to ALTTP. As I mentioned I havnt played L.A so I dont know if these screenshots are in the game. Can someone verify it?

My guess is that it is a homebrew hack that uses graphics ripped from Game Boy Link's Awakening in place of the original Zelda's graphics.

At least from the scanned article and the "Links Awakening" pre-release shots....i don't understand all this speculation about it being some vastly different game.

They haven't finished the GB game as so they used some exsisting art from the previous game in the series.

I doubt its any stretch of the imagination that someone would use some temp artwork until the final story and art for the places you will visit is completed.

As for the kid with the "Zelda 3" NES prototype.

poorly lit rooms with only the NES and the TV showing aren't solid proof.

Possibility is infinity! You must be satisfied!

I don't understand why he has to go through all this trouble to bullshit everybody for no apparent reason. Poor guy. Probably has no friends and strives for attention.

Out of curiosity, does Nintendo (Japan) have most of their prototypes on NES carts? What about Famicom carts? If Zelda originated from Japan why would a prototype be on an NES cart instead of a Famicom one?

If indeed this Zelda III cart was the real deal, would the game be in english or japanese?

I don't really know much about NES prototypes so hopefully someone can provide some answers to my questions.

Good call--if the game existed at all it would be created and released for the Japanese market...and Nintendo Power would have commented on it months before the US version was translated.

They could have worked on a jap and us translation of the game at the same time.

Ok people, it's been fun, but it's time to close up shop. Seriously! While it would be neat if it was real, it's not. They have never worked on a US/Jap version of any game concurrently. If this was real, it'd be in a Fami-shell. It's not.
