G4... is it really that bad?

According to this writer it is. But then again, he sounds like he's applying for a job at Something Awful with these angry rants so I'm not sure if I should pay attention to him. What's your opinion?

The guy who wrote that is an idiot. He obviously watched a grand total of one episode of Starcade and a few minutes of Portal, neither of which is exactly typical programming at G4. He also used profanity in his piece...if you can't get your thoughts out without using that kind of language, you are pretty much of a mental midget.

Regarding the quality of G4's programming, it varies. I don't watch a lot of the shows, but there are a few I do like, specifically G4tv.com and Judgment Day. I'll watch an occasional episode of a few other shows. I imagine the programming will eventually get better but there are far worse things on TV...like The Osbournes, The Anna Nicole Smith Show, Fear Factor, Survivor, etc., etc., etc.

hahah well I'll agree that "Portal" (a show that tries to make "drama" out of MMORPG's) is absolutely HORRIBLE. But Starcade is as good as the episode you're watching.

G4 is ok. It's still suffering from new-cable channel syndrome where a lot of the stuff they show repeats over and over. But overall I'd give it a thumbs up. Their shows like "Icons" is great, and their news show "Pulse" is definitely watcheable. It's got it's share of clunkers.. but hey, what do you expect from a channel that's only about videogames.. there's only so much you can do

That guy is a moron, G4 is the best thing to happen to TV in a LONG time!

Although I agree Portal does suck, also the guys on Judgement Day are idiots, and most of their reviews are innaccurate.

Actually alll I've ever seen of G4 I got from NE146, and I really liked it! What I think would be nice is if TechTV and G4 merged: that would be a TV station I would NEVER turn off.

Everything ELSE on the channel is pretty nice. The only sections I don't like are Cheatz, Portal, and Starcade.

Really? I can't get ENOUGH of Starcade! Used to watch that show back in the day, it's just so hilariously 80's and so sweetly-80's-arcade-nostalgic. As fucked up as Geoff Edwards is, it's part of the show's amateurish charm. And I actually find myself rooting for people to win (or sometimes to lose). What a blast.

YES, another hardcore starcade fan!! Ever since I first saw this show when I was 12 ( my uncle had the original episodes taped, he was hardcore back in the day I hear) I have been in love with the show!

Portal sucks, but the rest of G4 rocks. I watch it every night. It's better than reruns of friends. The Judgement Day guys I thought would get on my nerves, but they actually did the opposite, now they crack me up all the time. I just love being able to see games before I buy. I saw a preview of Amplitude last night that was great.

I've had G4 for months, and it's still my favorite channel, so there you go.

I was just discussing G4 with my wife today. I like it because it really reminds me of the early EARLY days of MTV. They were both brand new channels that were trying to program for a very "niche" audience. They each have a few shows to begin with (remember the VJs and all the cheesy segments they used to do?) that they repeat over and over. However, as time goes on, more programming will be added and they'll expand their reach and audience. I, for one, can't wait to see what G4 becomes down the road. All it takes is one "breakout" show to really put a cable niche channel on the map.
(Iron Chef, Trading Spaces, South Park to name a few examples...)

i watch G4 all the time, mostly as a background channel and i think it has some good shows. yes portal is weird, i think they wanted to more of mystery science theatre type show but the subject is too dry. but this guys review of starcade is pretty damn funny, i saw the exact episode he's talking about and thought a lot of the same things, especially about the mullet kids T-shirt presentation. the fact that the show is cheesy, host and all is part of the appeal for me.

I thought the dorks fryin' peanut butter and banana "samitches" was funny as hell.

how long has G4 been around? my cable provider just added it a couple months ago.

and yes, Starcade is very cool.
