I have virtua racing for genesis and 32x (and play them from time to time) and I never experienced this problems with regular or cordless phones!
First off, i have a hard time believing this. But on the other hand, this could be why Sega made that goofey dongle/cap that goes over the 32X port on the genesis. I've always heard it was to cut the RF bleed-through.
Never had problemess with my SVP-chip making ring my phones. Not in 1994 nor in the more then 10 years afterwards.
Don't believe anything of it.
That's very interesting but I really doubt it can happen. But who knows?
*phone rings*
Me: "Hello?"
Creepy demon voice: "Have you....checked....the children?"
Me: "AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!" *Checks caller ID* "It's coming.....from INSIDE THE HOUSE!"
*I walk into the attic, only to discover a phone next to a copy of Virtua Racing*
Me: "Oh, Virtua Racing! You and your shenanigans!"
But seriously, I'm kind of tempted to buy a copy of Virtua Racing and see if it actually does anything to my phone. That's gotta be one of the coolest game "easter eggs" ever.

Could this and similar issues cause a unplugged phone to occasionally ring?
If so it would explain some things around my house.
