Default The plans for my basement!

So, here are some pics of what my basement will look like (a lot of this is done already). Behind the Monitor "stands", there are Vertical blinds, which when opened will reveal all the games and systems. The systems will be in order of release date (when I finish moving them all around 15 times).

    Thats pretty sweet!
What are the red chairs facing?
Will you be storing your games & controllers in the drawers near the door?
Dont you want a big couch for multi-player parties? Well, I guess the parties would be better held in the livingroom where you wont have to worry about someone spilling a Mountain Dew on your Neo Geo.
With a room that nice, you should throw a good air purifier in there to keep your consoles clean & dust free.

Of coarse, it looks really cool. But doesn't it all seem a little bit unnecassary?

too sterile for my tastes. it reminds me too much of my office, which is the LAST thing i want to be reminded of when i get home, haha. looks like it's going to be a quality setup for sure though.

I'm not a fan of hiding my collection behind a bunch of venetian blinds? I like to show off my collection personally.

I have to agree with the above, looks like an office, way overboard, a bit pricey (maybe).

Here's the other kicker. How much are you paying an electrician to keep your house from burning down? There is NO CHANCE that you're wiring that up by yourself to an existing breaker panel.

He'll be fine as long as he doesn't turn on everything at once. I wired up my basement with several outlets, but no special circuits knowing full well that I'm generally going to be running 2-3 games at once at most. No real need to dump the entire power station into the place.

    Haha, you guys are jealous.

This room is insane, and I mean that in the best way possible. I hope it becomes reality.

And the office look is probably for the purposes of the diagram.

Here is a picture from the other side:

My desire isnt really to "hide" my collection, I am quite proud of it. I just find that it is very hard to get 140+ Consoles to ever look organized and neat. I can get them pretty close, but even then the room looks so crowded and junky. It also distracts from a game when you are trying to play it. The vertical blinds are the one part I have NOT done yet, so who knows...it may end up not being done anyway. What I would really like is motorized vertical blinds--hit a button and all three walls automatically open to reveal the collection

I plan on adding some color as well. I kinda wanted to get everything white so it looked a bit bright (the basement was 1970's dark wood paneling when I started). I will probably add some bright colors once I get done...I was thinking of putting some video game posters ON the vertical blinds...cut the posters into strips the size of the panes and clue them on...when the blinds are closed, it would look like a picture hanging on the wall, when they are opened, you can't see the picture anymore.

Price wise it actually isnt that much so far. The shelving behind the blinds is Closetmaid wire shelving from Home Depot (12foot section is like $13.00). The brackets and stuff add a bit to the price, but I actually had a lot of it already. The poles with the monitors on them are from Ikea...$24.99/each...plus $12.00 for the Steel box to hold the controllers. The shelves for the Commdore Monitors and the game systems themselves I just cut from a few 8 foot shelves from Home Depot. I already had the Monitors (in fact, I have 2 spares). The two 20" TVs that the chairs face I already had as well. The computers in the other part of the room are sitting on Kitchen Countertops from Ikea..total cost was about $85.00. The trestles under the countertop is also from Ikea--$20.00/each.

The big drawer unit in the middle is where the Controllers and stuff will be. Games are also behind the blinds..I have it so that the top half of each wall is games, the bottom half is Consoles. I will take some pictures today and put them up of what is done so far, so you can see the real thing. If anyone has any cool ideas, I am always happy to hear some!

Oh, and I used the program Sketchup to make the drawings btw.

Ok, here are a few pics. Remember, this is very much a work in progress..lol.

As you can see, I haven't even put the floor down in most of it yet (although again, suprisingly cheap). I also have not decided on the chairs for the larger monitors yet..I just stuck the red ones in the drawing as Placeholders.

Instead of posters on the blinds, you could do a painted/stenciled mural. That would be very nice. Admittedly, though, I like the idea of the blinds as is. When closed, they'll help keep the room looking classy. I can't stand shelves and shelves of crap just out in the open.

Well, that's why the mural idea is so good. One side is a mural; the other is plain. It's the best of both worlds.

    I say go for it.

Hopefully I plan to have most of it done by Thanksgiving. Will still need some fine tuning and stuff, but the big stuff should all be done by then.
