    Bottom line:

If someone has forked out $400 for a completely unecessary piece of entertaiment equipment, what difference to the world does it make whether they go and sit zombie like in front of it for 12 hours solid, or if they smash it to pieces?

None. Either way it could be considered a waste of $400, depending on your perspective. Sure, he could have sold it and donated the money to charity.

But then, so could all the rest of the people who bought an X-Box yesterday - surely that's part of the point of the whole stunt?

I'm as big a videogame fan as they come, but at the end of the day, it's a plastic box filled with whirling gears and 'lectronic parts. He bought it, he can give it to charity or take a dump in it. His call. Righteous indignation over a TOY is stupid.
as i read the first post i was trying to remeber that quote from starwars and apply it to this thanks man i could just picture a short skit playing out like that --

you see every where - out side , in malls , and mery go rounds a bunch of nerds falling catatonic the moment the 360 gets smashed
The human operates out of complex superiority demands, self -affirming through ritual, insiting upon a rational need to learn, striving for self-imposed goals, manipulating his environment while he denies his own adaptive abilities, never fully satisfied.

The question is, how much do you think he would get if he put that smashed up Xbox on Ebay? Keep it mind, its a core.

Pretty nuts, but yeah. I'm sure there's a way he's getting recompensated for all of this.

He took donations, if you actually read the site. ;p None of this money came from his pocket.

And yeah, this is pretty cool. I want that video.

The donors paid for a service. So, once the video is released, they got the full enjoyment expected out of their money. In that regard, there was no waste, and all sides of the agreement are happy. They got what they paid for, and there's nothing wrong about that. Odd, yes, but not wrong.

Shit, some people buy used panties out of vending machines. This 360 thing is angelic in comparison.

They could etch an image of Elvis into the shattered case and a Casino would up tens of thousands for it. Unmoddified though I'm sure it could go for at least $50... tinker tinker tinker!

Reading all this makes me think of George Carlin : 'Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.'.

Oh well, as Rob noted, this served this purpose for the participants, and there are far worse things going on in the world
