Default N-Gage: OFFICIALLY "Not a success"

From Kotaku: (also posted in Slashdot)

    http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/ngage/n...ess-139407.php

So the head bod over at Nokia responsible for the n-Gage has finally admitted that perhaps the dedicated deck, side-talkin’ frankenphone was possibly not the best way to go.

“We learnt that people want to play games on all devices. As such we are integrating the gaming software into Series 60 phones.”
I’m not sure why it took 3 years to come to this blinding realisation, but there you have it. Luckily they’re not throwing away all that good learning (and those developer relationships?) by the sounds, so it’s games ahoy for Nokia “normal phone” owners… in a few years.

    Better late than never!

A clam wind rolls across the plains as Nokia realizes that everyone knew that years ago.

so does that mean that sooner or later all nokia phones will be able to play the ngage games?
I still want a system myself, just waiting for the price to fall even lower.

This really isn't news, they mentioned something about this a year ago. That they were going to continue supporting the N-Gage, but they were going to slowly roll the games to their other smart phones.

PS. The QD doesn't feature sidetalking. And I love my QD.

It may have been a financial and marketing failure, I'll give you that. But you'll have a hard time convincing me that being able to play MSX, SMS, Game Gear, and Genesis games on something barely larger than a toy car could be considered a "failure". Heh.

    Default Not news

This has been discussed since E3 last year. N-gage did 2 million units worldwide which is pretty mediocre for a mass market cell phone design. Still, the plan now is to release games for S60 phones and Nokia may continue to release MMC card versions for the N-gage for those who don't want to download them.

Yeah, because we all know the QD required you to disassemble it, and talk with it sideways. Oh wait... Heh.

Anything that spawned a website full of pictures of people holding a disgruntled cat up to their heads can never be a true failure.

Default Yes it was a failure, but it was not in vein

Yes, it was a failure, but is was not in vien. Although many on this site have and bought N-Gage(like myself), it was not until this stuff was being moved at rock-bottom prices before I started picking up the stuff. The N-gage to me will always be one of the pioneers of cell phone gaming, and I think that they will learn from thier ill fated gaming phone. I look forward to seeing their new inventions.

He will be preserved here for eternity, or until my hosting expires. In the event that the image linked below is unavailable and you *NEED* it, PM me and I'll send it over to ya. It's one of those wallpapers I'll never use, but I have to keep it just because.

    THIS JUST IN.

Coca-Cola has held a press conference this week and admits that New Coke did not quite sell as well as they would've liked.
