Default Metal Slug And The Sega Saturn

I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section. When I play Metal Slug on my US Saturn the games kinda lags. It gets really choppy when there is alot of action on the screen at once. It is almost unbearable at times. Now my question is, what is the cause of this choppiness and is there a solution? I was thinking my Saturn might need a cleaning. Or maybe it is because I am using a 4-in-1 cart on a US system and I can avoid it by playing on a Japanese system with that official cart that came with the game itself. Can this be fixed or do I just have to deal with it like everyone else. All help and expertise is greatly appreciated.

That can't be helped it's just how the game was program, suffering from it's slow down sorry man.

If you can't stand 'it then get the "deal real" it's the only way to avoid the problem.

Btw "MS on the Saturn" is still a way better port then the PSX one :P

I have MS on Saturn and on my NeoGeo for what's it's worth i think SNK came close with the port but no dice.

I think most of the time i play... MS on my NeoGeo more

The only way to play Metal Slug without any slowdown is to fire up an emulator (like MAME) and overclock the main CPU to somewhere between 150% and 200%.

It's especially interesting to play Metal Slug 2 without the crippling slowdown (makes the game much more enjoyable).

Don't you need a ram cart to play some japanese Saturn games? This could be the problem....

Metal Slug does need the 1MB Cart, but if you're playing on the US System, he's probably using the 4 in 1 Cart (Which has the 1MB Cart)

Metal Slug Saturn strikes a dead on resemblence to Metal Slug 2 (MVS/AES) when it comes to slow down...but always remember slow down can be your upper advantage

I wonder how the re-release on GBA will turn out...
These cartridges are dirty as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!

I've got high hopes for it. It may finally give me a reason to break out the GBA SP again.

It'll be nice to have another cart to throw in the GBA slot on the DS, too. Right now the metroid prime pinball rumble pack is holding the fort down while Wario Ware takes a little bit of a break.

saturn version has ocassional slowdowns, but nothing that can be described as unbearable.
game is being rereleased on gba, it should be available soon.
the best Metal Slug you can get is on Neo Geo AES(for hefty 2 grands), or much more affordable and practically the same version on Neo Geo CD(loading times are hardly noticeable), so it should be worth giving a try if you have Neo Geo CD.

2 grands? More like 3 grand these days...

Another word of advice...get the MVS Cart if you ever obtain a consolized MVS system

AH yeah....Metal Slug on Saturn just has horrible slow down. It really sucks. When I had a Neo Geo CD, the game ran so much better, but still slowed down a lot. Another game that has such HORRIBLE slow down that I don't even bother is: Dracula X. OH MY GOD. When you kill one of the Wargs in the beginning, the system almost dies afterwards.

I don't remember any of this so-called horrible, crippling, terrible slowdown that so many people mention, but perhaps my memory is shot. I remember enjoying the game profusely. I need to break it out again and see for myself. I think you people are being overly dramatic.

Thanks for indulging my gaming habit when I was young, Dad. You were the best. I miss you. ~David Barnes 1926-2007~

Hmm, it really bothers me, personally. I think it's terrible. I actually did load it up a little while ago thinking "hey, it can't be as bad as I thought", but it sure was.
