Default Widescreen TV and the NES

So, Im looking at buying a Panasonic 44" LCD projection TV, but I wanted to test my NES on it first. So i hook it using AV cables, turn it on, and I get a solid bar of color on the left and right side of the screen that mirrors the main color on the screen. THe left side has a bar about an inch and a half thick, and the right side is about a half inch thick. It shows up on all modes (full, widescreen, 4x3, etc). It shows up with any games, and it shows up on all 42-46" tvs I tried it on. When I tried it on a 50", the problem seemed to stop. I have no idea what's going on, but I really want this tv. Unfortunately, I can't tolerate the bars, so I have to find some way to fix it. As a side note, the settings in the panny, won't let you move the picture to eliminate the bars. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Im not sure, but it could be the "overscan" made visible by the fact that the screen is wider.
Dont feel too bad, I once passed up a nice HDTV because it made NES games look bad, but it was a different problem.
