Default As Predicted, Zelda for GC and Rev

4 Coor Rebellion has an article up that's been ripped straight from NGC Magazine, and they have a long write up on the topic. Basically, they have the info, and give examples as to what will be different when playing with the Revolutions controller.

    A Few Excerpts,

"“But they also promised it would be out on Gamecube!” we hear you cry. Well, they weren’t lying. Twilight Pricess will be released on Gamecube - there’s no changing that fact. However, when you insert your disc into your Revolution, you’ll be given the option to use the Revolution’s controller, with all the advantages that this will bring."

"The freehand controller will be used to allow you to attack with Link’s sword, and it’ll be absolutely perfect for this. Lock on, approach an enemy and then swing your arm like your life depends on it to dish out the damage. We know that there’s a sword tutorial at the start of the game, and we’d imagine that this will have to change significantly."

In short, Congratulations, it's what we all predicted.

You're right, most of us did predict something like that. But I don't really think it is going to be all that (pardon the something-of-a-pun) handy. Can you really design a game that is going to get the most out of both controllers? Not even Nintendo could do that, I don't think. And, why bit both controllers against each other? Seems silly.

Oh well. I just hope that wasn't the reason to delay the game...

Edit: Whoa, I think I just wrote a load of crap. Both controllers could work in tandem on the Revolution. Get the ol' sword out when need be, etc, etc. I'll shut up now.

I'm going to dissent here. I don't think that using the controller as a sword is really all that handy.

How many times do you press the attack button during say a 2 hour game play session? 300? 500? That's a lot of swinging.

I know it's going to be optional which, of course, is the right move, but I don't think the world is ready for a full blown combat interactive adventure game.

I'd think it would break atmosphere instead of making it more tangible.

Still, it's pretty early in the game and I'm more than happy to be proven wrong here (which Nintendo has been pretty effective at doing recently).

I agree with blissfulnoise. I don't know how much a person can take. I think after 1 hour of swinging I might get tired. Unless my body is full of adrenaline, which could happen with a Zelda game.

The thing that I often forget is that very little movement is needed for this freestyle controller. You're just nudging it in different directions. It isn't going to be a full sweeping motion from head to toe to swing the sword, which is good. I'm not worried about getting too tired.

As if NGC Magazine was any kind of confirmation? I'm still doubting it.

Neither am I. I was referring to the repetative motion taking you out of the game's context. It just doesn't seem well placed to me. Again, I'm open-minded enough to wait and see.

And I agree with dbiersdorf. I'll believe it when a major publication/source breaks this story.

You all seem to forget that theres usually not all that many baddies in any part of any zelda game. I still remember feeling that there was a lack of things to kill in Ocarina on the 64 and in Wind Waker on the cube. Our arms definately wont be tired from the nonstop flailing about... thats just not what Zelda is about. Never has been, never will be.
Because it makes no attempt to be great, it is therefore extremely great.

He's right, it wont work right without wrist movement. And you do move your wrists while thumbing a PS2 controller RIGHT!? I think the exaggerated idea of this is similar to persons vearing and leaning around while playing 8-bit games. Its possible, I admit its not for everyone, in fact I even feel there's some that shouldn't bother, stick to their idiosyncracies.

I am unbeleivably excited for this aspect. It seems like Nintendo is really working hard to get this to be just right.

Well, lets hope that this is the time for games like Bushido Blade to make a return. Press a button once to kill an opponent? Meh. Time your sword parry and swing just right to hit a vital spot? Excellent.

Really, can that lizard get cut down 20 times and still get back up? The realistic action of actually killing it with your sword will not only reduce the already repetative gameplay but if you really only have to hit a couple of vital areas or REALLY connect once to inflict a mortal wound, it could do wonders for drawing you into the combat.

I do agree though, if it's simply translating a button press to a repetative physical motion of any kind then it's a fairly worthless "innovation."

I agree as well. They've said that after TP it "will be the end of Zelda games as we know them". So if this rumor is true they should've said, "Wind Waker is the end of Zelda games as we know them" .. whatever.

I'm kinda on the fence about this one. On one hand I would like it to be true so I could use the controller and blah blah blah.. but on the other hand it does feel like Nintendo is tacking this feature on just to have a Zelda game on the Rev. I would rather wait for a NEW Zelda game that would push the Rev to it's limits. But that's just me I guess.

Just as long as TP comes out around April/May (or earlier) I'll be happy. The End.

I think it's awesome that gamers now have a chance to look even dorkier playing videogames! Sweet! If only this was compatable with the Master System 3D goggles and maybe the NES Power Glove on the other hand.

I agree. This sounds like it might be a really cool idea, but until I hear it from a more reputible source, I'm not believing it.
