I have a lovely story to tell!
I just read this morning that the X-Box fighting game Kakuto Chojin is being pulled from shelves due to questionable religious content. I don't have an X-Box, but I have a friend who does and I can't resist the pull of a possible rarity.
I stopped by the mall on my way home from an errand and went to the Electronics Boutique. I asked if the female employee (the only one in the store) if they had Kakuto Chojin. She said they might have it in used... it was there priced at $40. I took it to the counter, along with "The Thing" game for my friend, priced at $20.
She rang up the Kakuto Chojin and said "uh..oh." I said "what?" expecting her to say that she couldn't sell it. She said "This is weird. It only costs 1 cent. I've never seen that happen before. I said "so..." She said "It must be your lucky day!" and rang up both games. Grand total with tax: $21.40
I immediatley went upstairs to the Gameworld or whatever it is (affiliated with EB) and asked about the game. He said it was a "1 cent return" game and that they had been instructed to throw all copies away because "it was a terrible game". I offered him $20 for a copy. He said he had three that he could not sell. I offered him $80 for all three. He stupidly called his manager on the phone, who promptly refused my offer. Oh, well. I didn't tell him why it was recalled or that I had a 1 cent game in my bag from their sister store in the mall. Didn't want to get the great/awful girl in trouble.
Thanks, uninformed EB employee! It was nice of you to be sweet and uncaring and not even question a game marked $40 being sold for 1 cent. You made my day!![]()
