Default Where can I acquire a faceplate tool for the Game Boy Micro?

Nintendo is a very peculiar company.

I bought the Famicom Game Boy Micro for $99. It came with no extra faceplates or the faceplate removal tool.

On their website, they sell faceplates, but not the tool. WTF? So, apparently, I just paid more for less. The other editions of the Game Boy Micro are $89, and they come with 2 extra faceplates and the tool.

The removal tool really isn't that special. You can use just about any thin "knife-like" object to unsnap the faceplate and take it off. The faceplate is only attached on one side of the micro, the other side has two pieces that act as a hinge. The "tool" is just a circular thin piece of plastic...nothing particularly unique about it.

It can't be good for the system to just rip it off like that though. The think is used for the holes on the side, and is much more safe I'm sure. You'll probably just have to bum one off someone else.
Mostly just play Nintendo 64. If you've got games PM me! Cart only.

they used to have the faceplate removal tool available online. seriously, earlier this week, it was available for (i think) $1. but you're right, it's now gone. i can't imagine they'd actually be sold out. maybe it will return soon? otherwise, i'd call them and ask about it.

The Famicom Micro faceplate is actually not supposed to be removed.

It can be just as easily as the others, but it was their intent to leave the red unit extra-faceplate-less.

What if it gets scratched though, and I want to replace it with another Famicom faceplate?

Valid question, and I always thought it would be kinda cool to have the player II faceplate as well. I dunno if they'll offer replacement faceplates for it though, so I'm probably just going to finish playing through FFIV on it and retire it. It's almost too beautiful to be played.

the nintendo store DOES sell the famicom faceplate separately for $5... starts shipping next week, but they're taking orders for it now.

Sounds like the expansion pack removal tool on the N64. I still use a butter knife.

I believe I read on one of the official Nintendo sites that the recommended means of removing the faceplate other than with the removal tool was to bend a paperclip until you have the two ends aligned in the proper positions and stick them into the holes on the Micro's side. Sounds reasonable, though I haven't tried this myself yet though.

I don't have the official removal tool either, but I don't really see the need for me to detach my faceplate anytime soon. The only faceplate I can imagine switching to is the Final Fantasy one, but that is definitely not a top priority for me.

    Just an update...

Nintendo includes the removal tool if you purchase a faceplate from their online store. I ordered a black faceplate last week (to match my black micro) and what do you know...an extra removal tool was included.
