So I just got my old Apple IIe back from my grandpa and I was wondering if anybody knew of any good sites for game reviews and Tech info.

It seems my Disk drives are not working all that well.

Which totally sucks cuz I was all hyped up to play some

I haven't used it to the extent of it's worth yet, but I seem to get problems from it when I do play around on it. I mainly got it so I could test MAC development on it if I decided to port anything to it.

Comp.sys.apple2 newsgroup is the best place on the net to talk about the Apple II. There are sites with message boards but they are not frequently visited.

An Apple ][ isn't a Mac at all - they're two different beasts.

1. An Apple ][ is not a Macintosh. It was released in 1985. If you were able to install OS 10.1 on it, you don't need to worry about porting anything to it. You are the greatest programmer in history.

2. It's Mac. Not MAC. MAC is the address assigned to your cable modem.

I have to take on your l33t h4x0r skillz. A MAC address is actually the number assigned to your network card inside of your computer. Theres one for every network card you have, so if you have a new laptop, you have a mac address for your wireless card and a mac address for your network jack. And yes kids, A,B,C,D,E,and F are all numbers.

i was wondering about that OSX.1 thing...thats a hell of an overclock for an apple ][...

any way as for the disk drives what arethey doing?
and if it comes down to it hit up a thrift store or a flea market for some drives, i usually find atleast 1 at the monthly flea market

It's possible they need cleaning considering they are about 20 years old. Apple II drives are built like tanks, I'd be surprised if they were dying.

I'm guessing that this was a typo, as the Apple ][ was released in 1977 (and the Mac released in 1984). Either that, or you and cyberfluxor are both thinking of the Macintosh II that was released in 1987, and are just approaching it from different ends.

Actually, if he's trying to make the OS 10.1 CD work in a 5.25" floppy drive, that would explain why they don't seem to be working so well...

If your Disk ][ isn't working, it's either dirty or it's no longer spinning disks at the right speed. If it's dirty the solution would just be to clean it of course. If the speed needs adjusting, there's a little trimpot inside the thing you can use to tweek the rotational speed. There are programs you can run that'll tell you how fast it's spinning and how fast it ought to be spinning, but of course you can't run these programs without a working disk drive.

We're talking about the the Apple ][e (from the first post). It was actually released in 1983. I was thinking about the updated model that was released in 1985 called the Apple ][e Platinum.
