Blockbuster World Video Game Championships I
Blockbuster World Video Game Championships III
Let's admit it and correct the database.
These are not real. Can't be. This is all the info I have (typed two times thanks to explorer crashing):
1993
StarFox/Starwing Super Weekend. (Made in Europe too)
1994
Blockbuster World Video Game Championships I
On SNES no special carts.
On Genesis Acclaim should have made a combo cart, the BWVGC I, with Micro Machines (Codemaster, 1993) and Psycho Pinball (Codemaster, 1994, NOT RELEASED IN USA). The same combo can be found in the european (UK) cart Codemaster 2-in-1, a normal retail cart.
Nintendo makes the second World Championships inside the Powerfest with special PCBs containing Super Mario All-Stars, Ken Griffey Jr Baseball and Super Mario Kart.
1995
Blockbuster World Video Game Championships II
On SNES we have Donkey Kong Country Competition Edition (Rare)
On Genesis Acclaim made the known combo cart, with 2 Accaim titles (NBA Jam TE and Judge Dredd) with Acclaim shell.
Let's read the label (from a pic of one recent auction):
Promotional Use Only-Not for Resale
BLOCKBUSTER WORLD VIDEO GAME CHAMPIONSHIPS II
NBA Jam Tournament Edition
Judge Dredd
This is not "second cart" but "cart for the second championship"!
199x
Blockbuster World Video Game Championships III
This is the better one. No infos on the tournament. The games that are rumored to be on the Acclaim cart: Rambo 3 (Sega/Carloco, 1989 launch title) and Tetris (from Genesiscollective and personal knowledge: Pageantsoft/Dr. Pepper Studio, 1989. Never officially released, just bootlegs in Asia). Now this combo can be found on the pirate multicart Golden 20-in-1: Bare Knouckle, Rambo 3 and Tetris. Maybe I am wrong but Nintendo owned the rights for publishing Tetris on consoles at the time. This tournament is really impossible for my point of view.
Now, at the end, this is what I think:
The first Championship has been done on normal carts or, anyway, not on the presumed cart.
The second is the only one with a dedicated cart, made by Acclaim.
The third has been done by someone who has found a multicart and by someone who didn't know what to write as manufacturer.
I may be wrong, but I think that these are not rumors nor legends, these are simply impossible.
Did you eve heard about the Sega VS Nintendo Italian Competition? Microsoft made a special cart for Atari 2600, using an xbox case for the shell.
